Well, crud, just now heard about this, and missed their Amarillo stop.. An owners group who have old military vehicles is on a cross country trip. If you are anywhere west of Amarillo, you might see them in the next few days.

They came thru OKC as well. I didn't get to see them up close and personal, but there was a lot of media coverage and videos on TV. They are following the old Route 66 highway as much as possible, as mentioned in your link.

Edit: That first truck in the last pic looks very familiar. When I was an AF dependent living in Incirlik AB, Turkey in 1959-61 we had a lot of trucks like that (or very similar). We called them "6-bys". I was in the 7th-8th grade and in the Boy Scouts. We rode in trucks like that a lot of times when we were taking long trips to campout/hiking sites, etc. A couple of those trucks were also used as "base shuttle bases" with a kluge of a "staircase" hanging out the back end.

Meanwhile, the folks on base who worked for the U-2 unit (Det 10-10) AND their family members (I was classmates and very good friends with all their kids) got to ride in brand new Blue Bird AF busses. Only Det 10-10 members and their families were allowed to ride on the busses. Talk about second class citizens! That's what the rest of us felt like.
