Sorry, Berghof. Not Eagles Nest.

This fine Brazilian lady colorizes old B&W photos better than anyone I have seen. I'm thinking of commissioning her to do a colorization of an old A&M photo, if I could just choose the right one.

wow, very well done. Looks almost like a frame straight from HBO's Band of Brothers show...

Is that a radio on the table? Pretty interesting.

Yes, astonishing. Look at some of the other samples on that page. She is amazing.

Maybe can commission her for some for the Pacific War. Especially this one. USS Wasp (CV - carrier No. 7) and O'Brian in torpedo attack at the same time off Guadalcanal, September 15, 1942. Quite a story. Wasp is 9,500 yards in the background for those curious of the range. Wasp is something of a sentimental interest, a neglected American carrier.

Almost certainly it is. There was even on in the Fuhrerbunker at the end. The thing that jumps out when you get into the more background deeper items of WW II is just how very, very similar it is to present day still in so many ways. The Axis no less than the Allies. There are even early helicopters, autogyros, on a Japanese auxiliary ship near the end of the war that somewhat anticipates the Tarawa type look.

I was saying it was interesting because it doesn't look like any radio I've ever seen from that era. Maybe an upscale German design I don't know about.

What is left up there? I understand that the locals blew up most remnants in a misguided attempt to erase history and prevent monuments. You said you also sat right there . Isn't that the giant picture window in the Fuhrer's study ? Is any of the Eagles Nest left ? Is it worth a trip , not for sightseeing, but to see WW2 history ?

It's intact and it and the whole surrounding area is worth a trip. Gorgeous.

I emailed her and got a response! She'd be happy to commission and requires 300dpi resolution or greater.

I'm thinking an iconic A&M b&w photo. Any thoughts?

That was the greatest torpedo spread of the Pacific war (at least the greatest I've ever read of).

Of course, Wasp's LSO turned into the highest scoring American ace to survive WW2 (which you already knew). And about 100 Wasp survivors later went on board Essex as gunners, and were probably the best shots in the fleet.

I recommend everyone on this thread go to Bavaria and check out Berchtesgaden. It is definitely worth the trip. Look into the Platterhof (the Walker Hotel, when I was there) it's impressive if still standing.

Can you PM me her contact information? I was looking to getting some pictures colorized the other day but didn't know where to start to get that done.
