"Attack on the Liberty" by James Scott is a good book on the events leading up to, the attack, aftermath on the ship, and the political followup. Very interesting and the ship was in a hell of a mess.
The author's father was an Ensign on board at the time and was in charge of damage control. This was Jame's first book and he has written a few more, including the most comprehensive book on the Doolittle Raid. He has a book on the battle for Manila out in a few months.
