Who has seen it? Is it a must-watch like I keep hearing?

Best ways to see it?

Old thread

It's been discussed a time or two. Google search will bring up quite a few results.

Short answer: very good.

Yes.

Best way to watch is in order.

I've seen it several times and still will put on an episode of nothing is going on. Rainy days with no one around is perfect time to watch.

It's good, but as I get older, I start wanting more depth. Hardly any strategy. But it was written for a general audience, and it's about as good an intro for them as you would ever find. It was transformative at the time, of course, because he found a way to make something compelling with almost no moving images.

I use it when I teach the Civil War for the very reasons you gave: it's excellent on background material.

I own it, but I like more depth also.

Ashokan Farewell still brings me goosebumps. I thought it was a period peace until I learned it was written in 1982. Fits so well.

Lorena is a period piece. Both sides.
