Born today in 1807 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. Named for two of his mother's brothers, Robert and Edward Carter, he was born at Stratford Hall, the fourth child of Henry "Light Horse Harry" Lee III and his second wife, Ann Carter Lee.

Light Horse Harry Lee. Now there is a Revolutionary War personality. His accounts of artillery firing into men in combat h ave since been thought to be incorrect. That was at Guilford Courthouse if I remember right.
