Started 2021 off as the year fo the push-up! 1 push-up today then add 1 rep every day for the year. By December 31, 2021 you will have done 66,795 push-ups!

I don't mean to be a Debbie downer, but has this been done before? Seems nearly impossible once you reach around the high 200s. I can't imagine doing 250+ push ups day after day....

Agreed. I'm pretty well conditioned to push ups and anything over 150 takes a couple days to recover.

I'm with pushups. It seems like it will get challenging after 30 and very challenging after 50.

Well, nothing says you have to do them all at once. You could spread them out in intervals throughout the day, I suppose.

And even more challenging when you do 81.

I'm not sure whether this is the best way to approach a push-up challenge, but I'm in, sort of.

Rather than ramping up to 300+ per day by year end, I'm going to go for a per week average to smooth the curve if that makes sense. I already do push-ups regularly now so more just trying to keep it up and track.

No kidding. Still not practical. Maybe Herschel Walker is doing 365 push ups the day after doing 364 push ups. Nobody else is.

I'm going to try the 364 today and 365 tomorrow just to see how close I can get to Herschel Walker status. Will report back tomorrow on outcome. If I can lift my thumbs to type that is.

Did this during covid when I was WFH

I got to where I was doing 300-400 a day
It's not bad spread out

Not sure if how many weeks it's sustainable though

Also I would make sure you're hitting back exercises too

Gave this some thought.

I'm thinking about this:

Jan - 3 sets of 10 per day
Feb - 3 sets of 11 per day
Mar - 3 sets of 12 per day
.... etc....

Or maybe I need to increment by 2 per month?

I did pretty well (for me) from late September into November. As long as I could do some sets at work and before bed I could do 100+. Would like to knock out a 100 set.

Fell off the wagon around Thanksgiving. Hopped back on for 2021.

Some buddies at work did a challenge to see who all could do 100 continuous a year or two ago. There was a training plan to build you up to it.

I'm thinking if you're doing 2534 reps the last week of this challenge then 100's gonna feel like nothing.

So far, so good.

I did something like this last year, except I started at 101 on January 1, and ended at 466 on December 31. Just did 10 sets to equal the number for the day. The consistency is great.
This year my plan is to do 300 pushups, 150 sit-ups, and run 2 miles every day

My buddies and I started with 40 on the 1st, and are adding 1 a day. Have an alarm set to remind me to do 10 every hour until I reach my goal.

I'm doing 100 push ups a day, 6 days a week.

I know people who have done the 1000 push-up challenge in their 40's. Work up for a few weeks then finish 1000 in 1 day.

If you spread lots of them out into sets of 10 or 20 all day long, 200 or 300 push-ups a day is doable

I was doing 10 sets of 25 regular, and 10 sets of 10 diamonds for 350 total daily while the gym was closed in the spring. Knocked it out over 2-3 hours between work calls, etc. Wasn't really that big of a deal for me.

It was just maintenance for me- I got back in the gym at about normal levels. Was just saying that "Herschel Walker is the only one doing that" wasn't really accurate, 300 push-ups a day is def doable.

I am doing body weight mainly. As a 53 year old guy, it will not bulk me up, but it is great for maintaining fitness and not looking like a going downhill 54 year old guy

Up to 65 today. Definitely seeing a difference in the arms and chest.
