Are there any home gym architects in the dfw area?

I have a room that I plan on building out for a workout room... 21' x 18'

I have a few ideas... but need some others
Have you tried posting and/or looking around on Reddit /r/homegym? You'll probably have to wade past all the DIY stuff that's cropped up lately due to shortages, but there's some good stuff out there as far as organization, design, etc.

21x18 is close to the size I was contemplating adding as a room addition to the back of our house. I was using sketchup to mockup room layouts. You can find online sketchup models for racks, barbells, and equipment like the Concept rower out there in the public domain.

heh... I tried to stay away from that rabbit hole.

For reference, I bought this one used, on Craigslist, from the same guy I bought the S-2 squat stand and Tractor Supply stall mats. I paid... exactly what is being asked for one on this thread. It's a great, solid bench, that is still lightweight enough to move it around easily.

All in, I've got roughly $2,300 into my home gym, and I haven't had a paid gym membership in almost 4 years. Between membership fees at LA Fitness for both my wife and myself, the gym paid for itself sometime in late 2018.

Nice setup.

Can you do pull-ups or hanging leg raises off it?

Yeah, I'm 6'1" and have to bend my knees to keep from touching the floor, but I do the few pullups I can squeak out on it.

I also added the Rogue Matador for dips.

Slowly putting mine together. Cleared some wall space for an eventual pull-up bar when I can find one, high demand/low inventory I guess. The yeti makes for a good box jump but I plan on building a legit one very soon. RR crossing sign is coming down to eliminate a puncture hazard lol.

Are any of you receiving partial shipments of plate orders? I've had two separate orders arrive incomplete the past 2 weeks and seeing the same types of plates on Ebay (new) for at least 5x more. Me thinks either the warehouse or shipping guys may be skimming and reselling, but was curious as to what others have experienced recently.

My rogue plates are coming in several shipments. We bought a rack off eBay and it came in 2 separate boxes on 2 different days.

My cage, cable add on, adjustable benches, hex bar and related accessories have arrived without incident. It only appears to be the plates that are growing legs and walking off

I actually found some plates at an Academy, although everything was 35 and under, no 45s.

We got a pair of 45 bumpers from Fringe Sports. We are waiting for 2 more pairs of bumpers from Rogue and the bar from Texas Power Bars. We were able to get some steel plates from Rogue that have already arrived. I got a curl bar from Fray Fitness, so at least we have some sort of bar.

Anyone having any luck finding any dumbbells or pull-up bars? I've been looking online, but both seem to be going the route of toilet paper right now.

Where are you located? For anyone in DFW, the new Scheels has opened in The Colony and has some things still available for pickup.

Thanks, but I'm quite a few hours south of DFW. Really just looking for some adjustable dumbbells and maybe some sort of pull-up bar right now. Looks like just about everything is sold out online.

I think your best bet for a pull-up bar right now might be fashioning some sort of homemade one if you're handy. I haven't seen the adjustable dumbbells in stock anywhere.

This. Plenty of YouTube videos on a pull-up bar. If you have the space in your yard, a pull-up/dip bar combo is the way to go. Quick trip to Lowe's and you'll be set.

I am pretty handy and have pretty much all the basic tools (wrenches, ratchets, drill, driver, circular saw, etc.). I'll look into this. I can definitely find a spot in the garage to mount something. Thanks for the advice.

I'm fortunate enough to have some adjustable dumbbells and a pullup bar in my basement. Really wish I had a barbell setup and a power rack or squat rack. Maybe I can luck out and find a deal once people start heading back to the gym, I don't mind working out at home. Nothing I find online that I'd want to buy is in stock right now.

We ordered a bench from Titan that was supposed to be backordered until April 20. Still haven't gotten a shipping notification.

I ordered a bench (no name)off amazon for $85 that said delivery was in a week. The next day it was listed at $585. Today the listing is gone all together along with my $85. Last year I bought some super cheap osprey bags and they never came and the seller never replied. Turned out it was fraud just like I'm sure this purchase is.

Oh and I built a power rack.

Man, that is like a full gym set-up. I'd be in fitness heaven with that. Heck, I'd be on Cloud-9 with just those adjustable dumbbells. Those are worth more than gold right now and you have to dig about as much or more to find them. I've looked and looked and most are out of stock or you have to wait until June before shipment along with a $500 per Dumbbell (meaning you get one dumbbell for $500) price-tag.

Here's ours...not as nice as some on here, but it serves us. All detached garages in our neighborhood have a room on the back, and the previous owners finished out ours and put in a window unit vs. making it a shop. We initially used it for storage while we got settled in, but then decided to turn it into a home gym. I ripped up the nasty carpet (they kept their dog in it) and unpacked or got rid of a lot of stuff in it. A poster on TA was selling the cage and weights last spring, so I bought that from him for $350, IIRC. Bought a bench and added a peg board to keep things organized.

The AC works well, and turning it on about half an hour before working out cools the room up to where it's chilly when you enter.

As stated in the Peloton thread, we bought my wife a spin bike from a gym closing down. In front of the bike is a TV with a Roku built in that she uses to stream her rides (thanks to a mesh wifi system getting internet out there) and I use to watch TV when I'm lifting. To the right of the spin bike is a cheap one she used initially that we got off of Amazon. Kept it because her sister has stated she may come over to do rides with her, and I may occasionally hop on...that's still TBD.

Disregard the junk. My goal was to have both vehicles in the garage by summer, and we utilized this COVID thing to clean and organize the garage. Majority of it went to the trash (garbage guys hate us) or to a local shelter's thrift store, but the baby stuff we kept since our church has a huge sale of baby stuff every fall to help fund it's youth programs, so that crap sits in this room until the fall.

Future plans are to get the lights on a switch (currently rigged on a wifi plug) when my electrician brother decides he's been at home too long and wants to come over, and to put down a rubber floor. The previous owners repainted everything inside and left the excess, which matches the colors in the room, so I'm going to touch up a few places as well as re-paint the trim.

Any recommendations on a quality rubber floor that won't break the bank? It's about 240 sq/ft and I would prefer to keep it around $350-400 if possible.

FYI - I just ordered some 45lb high temp bumper plates from Rogue. I got an email alert about them being back in stock. I think they already sold out...

I think 10 of the horse stall mats from TSC would cover you and be about the top of your price range. Easy and indestructible.

I am in the same boat. Hoping maybe people will start selling their stuff once the gyms are back, or it will at least allow the supply chain to pick back up. I am scouring Academy, Dicks, and online retailers for dumbbells, benches, etc. and can't find much of anything. What I can find is price gouging galore and I would rather just do bodyweight exercises in the meantime. The good news is my garage has been through some demo and now prep to get it ready when I do find the right equipment.

This. Let's says it's 20x12, the 2 across on the 6' side with 5 down and you're good to go or $400. Circular saw will cut the 3/4" mats, no problem if you have some sizing issues. That said, I'd try to configure it where I'm using whole pieces.

TSC usually does a 10% coupon if you sign up for their mailer and I think they do a 10% coupon if you join their rewards. Would get you below $400 on the 3/4" mats.

Appreciate the recommendation. After I posted, I read through the thread and saw that recommended in a post. I'll check out Tractor Supply to see what their availability is and to see just how much I need.
