It is finally race week!

I'm in for the full; this is a "B" race for me, so not going all out but will still be pushing and, if I'm being honest, will probably end up pushing harder than I should...

Weather looks pretty good at this point, I'd prefer about 10 degrees cooler but definitely not complaining with how hot and humid it is right now, below is an excerpt from Space City Weather

Hello, runners! Can you imagine running in this soup if the front weren't on the way? Just brutal. So, are you ready for the Houston Marathon? I'm looking forward to this year's run, and all the amazing signs that spectators make along the way to keep us going. Some of us sure need the help.

Start line temperatures will most likely fall somewhere in the upper 40s, with low dewpoints all day helping to cool us down. At this point, I expect clear skies for most, if not all of the day, with noon-time temperatures in the mid-50s. We'll definitely notice the winds, which likely will be out of the north-northeast at 10 to 15 mph. All in all, these will be near ideal conditions for a long run. Good luck! Low temperatures Sunday night should fall into the low 40s for most of the region.

Good luck. Houston is my 2nd favorite marathon course I've run! Not doing it this year because Cowtown/Texas Independence Relay is a good enough one/two punch for this old body.

I am in for the full and it is definitely my "A" race (and hoping for a big PR). I have heard so many good things about this race, so I am very excited for Sunday.

I'm in for the full, my first. Excited, a little anxious, but ready to go.

My full PR was in Hoiston - dead flat except for the one bridge at Mile 13. Great crowds, especially around Rice. Sounds like the weather is gonna cooperate.

I ran the Dopey marathon last weekend at Disney World.

My wife and I are volunteering this weekend handing out medals, so I'll see you guys at the end.

Just really freaking ready to go, I'm already a giant ball of nervous energy. I've had a really good training block and am 100% healthy, so all that's left to do is go out there and put it on the line. Y'all pray for my coworkers, family, and everyone else who has to put up with me for the next few days.

I'm in for the full. This is an A race for me. Fourth marathon, first at Houston, and first since Marine Corps '17. I wish it would be 10 degrees cooler, but I'll take this forecast. I have 11 other friends that are also running the full, so it'll be a fun weekend.

I have officially turned into a germaphobe this week. No one is allowed in my office without first using hand sanitizer.

I love that Monday is MLK Day, which means that I already have that day off to recover. My post-race massage has been scheduled and I've ordered several boxes of Girl Scout cookies to aid in post-race recovery.

Too many lingering aches and pains during training so doing the half. Looking forward to listening to my Rush Neil Peart tribute - 2112 should last for 2-3 miles. Good luck everyone!

In for my third full, second at Houston. Starting to get antsy and anxious, definitely glad the weather is going to cool down quite a bit.

I'm a lead bicycle rider in front of the men's half. Clearing out pedestrians etc who might be in the way. Last year was a bike escort for a wheelchair athlete on the full. Respect to all!

In for the full at Houston. This is my 1st full so I'm excited. I loved the Houston half last year so I am really looking forward to all the crowd support and race day excitement. I'm also ready for it to get here so I can stop obsessing about germs and weather this week.

Kick butt, everybody. I'll be with you in spirit. Broke my foot at the beginning of August, and I'm still trying to get back to running. Wearing a walking boot for two and a half months was better than surgery but still no treat. This is my first year not to run either race since 2012.

Happy running to all!

This will be my first time as a spectator. I won't be running it for the first time since 09. This was to be my 20th marathon and (hopeful) BQ but a setback in November has kept me from running much the past 2 months.

We'll make the most of it though. My wife is going to drive me around to the spots she usually hits when she and the boys are watching me. So I'll be cheering y'all on. Looks like better weather is coming.

Finished my men's half lead out on the bike. Those guys running absolutely fly. When we turned north on Montrose into the strong headwind, a couple of them kicked it up a notch. Several of them finished in under one hour. Massive respect

If you high-fived a kid with a cat paw, that was the oldest Beer. So many strong runners this morning. Great job everyone.

Finished just over 4 hours. Was expecting better, but not too bad for a first effort.

Best sign, sorry 'Stros fans:

The Astros stole my other sign.

Glad I decided to change distances - PR in the half, but right hamstring was about to give out during the end. Inching closer to the 2 hrs barrier.

We've got an obesity crisis in this country and you want to pick this battle.

HUH what does that have to do with much better means of combating obesity than running huge distances that frankly most people have no clue what they are doing.

Lol. Probably not as many as had heart attacks sitting their obese butts on the sofa inhaling cheese puffs.

Solid first post on this board (at least I think it is). Bold strategy coming to the H&F board on the morning of a big race to hate on distance running. It's almost like you are just stirring the pit or trolling. Wait, yes, you are doing just that.

He probably didn't pay attention to the news and got stuck in traffic. He was inconvenienced and thinks the race should be cancelled.

When I did the Kingwood Half 2 weeks ago, it was my first half. I had never run further than a 10K until a week before the race. So, 6 days before, I went 8 miles, then 3 days before I went 10 miles. So, I get my time in the half, and find this website that allows you to input your time for the half, and tells you what you should run for the full. So, this site tells me my full Marathon time should be 4:00:00. Are you kidding me? I never wanted to run a full, but the running gods are just toying with me.

It's a slippery slope. Just start running for some simple reason - whatever that may be - and next thing you know, you have some slight thought of running a marathon. I feel like it's an archetypal story in running.

As for the time conversion and all that, it's valid that your half time would translate to a four hour full. There are just lots of other factors that the calculator can't figure in. The physical aspect of 26.2 versus 13.1 is substantial, but the mental aspect, to me, is a complete game changer. The full is just a grind to stay locked in and keep executing over the distance. You see lots of people who drastically drop time in their second full compared to their first. Definitely physical aspects in training and consistency there, but the mental game of knowing the 26.2 is huge.

And then some people it all just comes to naturally and they make the grinders like myself really mad - haha.
