Who is running something that weekend?

Wife and I are doing the half. Bro and Sis in law will be posted up at mile 12 with beer for any Ags (Texas or Colorado A&M aka State) that want to carb load for the last mile.

I'm doing the half as well. Mile 12 is on the downhill out of downtown, correct? Hell yes I'll stop if I know who to look for. Last year there was a guy at Mile 10 with Fireball shots - God bless that man.

Penciled in for the half as my return from 6 months of injury. There won't be any PRs this year, just hoping to get the miles in pain free.

If that happens, then I putting my fall marathons on the calendar.

My thoughts exactly. Just need to get across the tape without hurting. Kick starter to NYC 26.2 training.

Right, on the west side of the Lancaster bridge. We haven't worked out a flag, or what have you, but I'll let you know when we figure it out.

Mile 9 will suck.

Mile 9 is the devil. My pace went up a full minute during Mile 9 last year and I never recovered.

I'll be there and running the half. I have just got back into running over the past couple of months after a very extended break from marathons and halfs.

Looking forward to it as I always liked Cowtown over the Dallas race.

Is there a course elevation map anywhere online? I looked for one a couple days ago and couldn't locate it.

If your on MapMyRun, just go search Cowtown Marathon course. It's in there.

Two significant hills on the HM - Mile 4 (medium) and Mile 9 (death).

Running the half again. Guess I should start training.

I had a lot of fun last year. Maybe I was just feeling really good that day, but I didn't think the mile 9 bridge/hill was all that bad.

More detailed for the HM.

Mile 9.4 is at 517 feet - Mile 9.6 is at 622 feet - so that's a little over 100 feet vertical in a quarter mile. And it makes it worse (imho) that you can see it coming for several miles as you run south on Main Street - it's straight up this bridge:

That gets me jacked up.

In for the full with a buddy of mine. Admittedly, I'm not at the top of my game currently, but this has to be done.

Any word on this beer stop? I'm starting to taper this week and am looking forward to this.

It's not bad. It's a short bridge.

I'm in for the half for the first time.

Its not a bad hill. The hills at Dallas are worse becasue they are later and longer.

I agree that the hill itself isn't bad. But damn that long straight look you have at it gets in your head well before you actually get close to it.

Last year there was a detour and you ran parallel to the road the bridge is on. You didn't have it in front of you for 3 miles.

That detour is still there this year.

Indeed. Came here to post details.

Assuming all goes as planned, my sister in law will be posted up with a BOB stroller on the south (left) side of the street. (She's watching the runt). She went to Colorado A&M (as we both call it) and will be draping this over the BOB as an identifier.

Go to her and tell her my handle. That will get you a 12 oz-er of probably this:

Offer good for everyone until it runs out.

If anything changes, I'll post an update.

This is going to be a slooooow one for me. Cheers.

Mile 9 is no joke if you are trying to rip it. For just completion, slow down and you'll be fine.

I'd say the exact opposite. Attack it and catch your breath the next flag mile.

There are varying thoughts on how to tackle that mile. If you have been able to run above your target pace for a while before you get there, many will back off. For the less capable runners (such as myself), this is probably the smarter strategy - which means I probably won't do it.

Honestly, that hill is so short it's not worth fretting about.

The hill is not a big deal.
wbt5845
How long do you want to ignore this user?

So I guess there's a lot of you that are bad ass runners who think that hill is no big deal. I'm a "born again" runner who quit for 20 years, gained a hundred pounds and have now lost most of it after three years of dedicated hard work and I think that hill is the spawn of Satan.
Rudyjax
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Running is mental. If you feel the hill is the spawn of satan, it is.

If you prepare for it and think it's no big deal, it's no big deal.
