Well, my splits improved a lot when I quit my job and decided to spend more time with my family before getting a desk job again... so, first thing you should do I suppose is quit your job.

Just takes time. I was a steady 8:30-9:00 runner a year ago. Under 8:00 was a pipe dream. Today, 3.5 at 7:50 in the rain.
