I've been having some pretty severe upper abdomen pains over the past week. They went away over the weekend but the pain came back this evening after dinner. I'm thinking I might have an ulcer. Looking for a good gastroenterologist in Houston. TIA.

I've really like Brian Douglas. I've been going to him about a year for ulcerative colitis and like his take on medicine.

Don't have a recommendation, for a GI doc. But I usually recommend that folks go see their primary doc first before going to specialists, unless they're sure they need a specialist.

For example, if you do have an ulcer, unless you really want a GI doc to put a camera down and visualize the ulcer, any doc can test for the bacteria that causes most ulcers and easily treat with some antacid meds and antibiotics. Even if you don't have the bacteria, they'll probably trial you on antacid meds like Nexium for a few weeks to allow the lining to heal.

Just a thought.

That's a great idea. Thank you for the recommendation.

With that being said, does anyone have a decent GP they would recommend in Houston (preferably on the west side of town). Since I moved here after school, I thankfully haven't needed to go to the doctor, and when I've needed to go, urgent care sufficed. I just called my FIL's doctor and he's booked until December.

Tompson is who I have seen. He referred me to Dr. Eric Mueller as an internal med doc as I did not have a Dr. And hadn't seen one in probably three years or so.

They are in the medical center and not west Houston though.

Sandeep Lahoti is a great physician and a great person if you end up needing a GI doctor. One of the smartest persons I've met. Also an Aggie undergrad (UTSWMC for med school and residency).
