I found out the key to burning fat is you have to keep inflammatory foods to a minimum.

Wanted to see what my goal was back in January. I was 198 then and in month 2 or so of CrossFit. Goal was 185. I had not stepped on a scale for the past 6 months.
At lunchtime today, I was actually at my goal of 185. Insane. Biggest changes were Intermittent Fasting (16-8) and starting a cardio/"engine building" program from an older CrossFit Games athlete who was helping test my weaknesses.

I thought this was the time of year where we pad our stats to look good on the 2019 thread.

Wild.

What was your diet and exercise strategy?

That's like a 2000 calorie deficit daily for a whole year. Pretty tough to do.

Congratulations, that is some amazing progress! Keep up the good work. I am going through something similar myself now (although not nearly as much as what you have done), and it feels so good to be able to play and do more with my kids. Great work!

So just a little bit of back story, my wife and I started walking every morning in January as a semi New Years resolution to get healthier. I went to the doctor in February because my knees were giving me trouble. When I weighed in, I was shocked to see 400 lbs. on the scale. I was expecting 330, maybe 340. That scared the hell out of me. Went home and started researching diets.

As far as diet, on 2/26 we started keto. That went a long way to help teach us portion control and how to actually keep track of what we were eating.

In July we started doing intermittent fasting. We were basically doing a 5/2 split, usually fasting on Tuesdays and Thursdays. That also worked very well, and felt a little more normal than strict keto.

At this point we are doing a hybrid between calorie in calorie out / low carb / intermittent fasting / one meal a day, basically just mixing it up based on what we have going on that day between our schedules, kids schedules, etc. but making sure we maintain a calorie deficit when you look at the week as a whole.

As far as exercise, at the beginning of the year my wife and I started walking every morning. At first it was just a lap or two around the block. As we lost weight and started feeling better, we progressed to jogging, then running, then started to mix in some calisthenics. Right now alternating days between cardio and calisthenics, trying to do at least 5, sometimes 6 days a week.

My wife has gone from ~200 lbs down to 135 lbs during that same time frame.

Started the year wearing 3XLT shirts and 44 waist pants, currently in LT shirts and size 34 pants. I don't know women's clothes sizes that well, but my wife has basically gone from xl down to small and medium. It was all fun and games when a bunch of older stuff started to fit again, but now we're at a point where none of our clothes fit. We are basically having to buy a whole new wardrobe. Guess it's a better problem than the opposite end of the spectrum, but a huge expense none the less.

Again, awesome progress.

I used a pretty similar strategy, lots of walking, keto, 16 hour fasting with OMAD a couple days a week.

How tall are you? 400 pounds and size 44 waist leads me to believe you're very tall. I was 268 and 44 waist and I'm a bit over 6'1".

Awesome work big1russ. Time for a name change it seems.

Just looked back at my garmin account and saw my high point for the year was 177 and I hovered around 173-174 for the majority of the year. I finally had enough in September of just being OK on runs. I wasn't training for anything yet so I decided to run every day. As of today I have run 77 days in a row and 98 out of the last 100.
Today I was 155.3lbs, down almost 20 from then. Also went from ~20% body fat to 13.5% and feel so much better.

My new weight target for next year is to get under 150 and 11-12% body fat for the whole year.

So any chance Wrec Ag or someone else starts up the 2019 thread?

I got work to do in 2019.
