It's about that time.

Races:
Boston Marathon - Hopefully sub 3
Portland Maine Marathon - Hopefully PR

Submitted lotto entry into Hood to Coast but chances to get in aren't that great.

Would also like to get a 16:59 min 5K somewhere, likely attempt in February/March.

600+ running miles (should get over 500 in 2017)

One race trip (half marathon) outside of Texas

Half-marathon PR, 10k PR

Totally health year with ulcerative colitis under control

Forgot to add finish Ph.D.- this should free up some free time for more running and strength training and promote better eating habits

I'm still procrastinating/failing at my 2017 goals, thank you very much.

I'm going for a repeat of some of my 2017 goals:
- A healthy and injury free year
- Stretch more and drink more water
- PR at all distances that I'm racing (5k, 10k, 13.1, 26.2, 50k)

And, 2018 will be the year of attempting longer distances!
- Become an Ironwoman ... registered for Ironman Santa Rosa in May ... my first IM after three 70.3 races
- Try a 50mile and 100k trail race in the second half of the year

I'm still smarting from my 100k DNF last weekend so this is sort of just an outline until I can nail down a plan a little later on.

Jan 1 - Kingwood Half Marathon. I'll be in Houston visiting family for the holidays and I want to try for a 1:20 half marathon since it'll be a flat, sea-level course. Anyone else want to join? MexAgs?

April 16 - Boston Marathon. I plan on building up for this race with the intention of running a fast time. But I also understand that Boston is a tough course and the weather doesn't always cooperate. If it's a great weather day, I'll try for something like 2:57. If it's warm, I'll just run for the experience of Boston.

Late May - Early June - Complete a 50 mile trail run. I need to get my nutrition figured out for races longer than a 50k.

July - Race a 50 mile trail run.

October - Probably go back for redemption at the Cuyamaca 100k and get a Western States qualfier.

Pilot, if I remember correctly, you're working towards a marathon in all 50 states, right? How many states will you have after you do Portland, Maine?

I'll be at 16 after Maine. The last few years it's slowed down quite a bit especially since I want to do 10 Bostons in a row, so the 50 state goal is more a lifetime goal.

1 - Missouri
2 - Indiana
3 - Texas
4 - Oklahoma
5 - Illinois
6 - Mississippi
7 - Lousiana
8 - Connecticut
9 - New Mexico
10 - Oregon
11 - Massachusetts
12 - Colorado
13 - Minnesota
14 - Nevada
15 - Alaska

Cowtown Marathon - just looking for a PR

Other than that I'd like to do more bike races because they are a lot of fun. Also, just ride my bike more in general.

Would like to get to <15% BF. I was at 27% at 171 lbs. Taking another hydro test tomorrow to see what I'm at now (159 lbs).

Using the American Council on Exercise equation, Desired body weight = Lean body weight/(1-desired body fat percentage), that puts me at about 145 lbs.

Alright, this will be fun.... I may come back to edit this after I have more time to think it through.

  • Lift consistently 3x/week
  • Run consistently 3-4x/week
  • Weight back to the 175lb range (or lower, but that is unlikely). Currently at 185.
  • Do not go back to daily 2-4 (or more) beers. No issues with reasonable social drinking on weekends or special events.
  • Half marathon under 1:45.

Stretch goal:

  • Half Marathon under 1:40. (7:38 pace)

Biggest thing is consistency for me throughout the entire year.. I tend to go a month or two of lots of running or lifting or good eating, but then I go a month or two of little exercise or bad eating.. I am always at one extreme end.. Need to consistently be good.

Getting in on this one, kept putting off posting on the 2017 goals thread and eventually just forgot...Mine are similar to most on here

  • Maintain a weight under 170
  • Run 1,000 miles
  • PR in 5k, 10k, 1/2 marathon, possibly full marathon (don't have a full on the calendar yet)
  • Get more serious about running and get more respectable times....
  • Buy a bike and start cycling
  • Complete a sprint tri

I'm going to run Jemez 50 in May if you feel like traveling to northern NM.

It's one of the hardest 50s on the US.

Sounds tempting, but there's several good 50 mile races close to home that I need to start checking off the list.

No specific races planned since maybe moving next year except for a possible half in january. Everything was focused this year on marathon training, but I'm going to start off the year doing a lot of speed work and 5k training to build a good base for a summer marathon.

General goals:
20 min 5k (22:07 as of july)
1:30 half (1:59ish during slow runs training for marathon)
3:30 full (aiming for 3:45-3:50 this november)
Average 100mi/month

Biggest thing is trying to address injuries and keep them away. Its been one thing after another this past year.

  • PR in all distances up to 50k
  • Win a 5k. (placed 3rd yesterday and got smoked by 2 state champion XC kids from our district)
  • 1:35 half.
  • Pike's Peak Ascent this year + knocking off a couple more 14ers
  • NYC lotto again
  • Increase my upper body strength back to what it was a few years ago
  • Pacing a half next year
  • Possibly climbing in the Alps (Mont Blanc again or another) if I can find time to be get over there

Current schedule is:

  • Houston Marathon
  • Cowtown 50k
  • Texas Independence Relay (preferably with more than 7 guys)
  • Pike's Peak Ascent
  • BCS/Dallas Marathon

Will sprinkle in halfs and smaller distances throughout

Depending on how 2017 BCS goes, run a sub 3:00 marathon or go far enough under 3:00 that Pilot gets scared enough that I could beat him and reports me to the marathon cheater website.

Complete my first 50 miler, probably Grasslands. Looking for just finishing but would love to debut with a fast enough time to put Mexags on notice.

Stay injury free. The older I get that's easily #1.

I'd love to finally break 12 hours on an IM. Potential races are IMTX and Cozumel.

Is weight loss an acceptable goal? I'm on track to lose 40 pounds by the end of the year (started late July). I want to lose an additional 60-80 pounds next year.

figured in your part of the world, you can roll out of bed and run a good mountain 50, but thought i'd throw it out there.

Keep building aerobic work capacity and open up more options for training. Then work on moving more heavy things.
