I guess that's technically a neuromuscular specialist.

Anybody?

Is that a specialty distinct from basic neurology? I see Dr. Mary Ellen Vanderlick in Houston for my MS, and she is a general neurologist, not an MS specialist. She is very good. You might also look up William Ondo. He used to be head of the Parkinson's clinic at Methodist, but I think he left to go to a different group. He dealt with a wide variety of things besides just Parkinson's with my mom.

Depending on what they are needed for, may be better to go to a subspecialist than a general neurologist

Was diagnosed with POTS syndrome a few years ago which is an Orthostatic/disatonomia issue.

Starting to have some reoccurring issues and it always bothered me that the cardiologist never really attempted to look for the culprit just gave me a cortisteriod and eat more salt and shoved me out the door.. There is no clear answer as to what causes it as it's the culmination of several things possibly.

Without getting too specific i was having some weird muscle loss and weakness in very specific spots on legs and shoulders. I was advised that it might be a good idea to start ruling some things out and see if someone had some other idess on the origin rather than just addressing the symptoms

I would definitely recommend a further evaluation with a neurologist. POTS may or may not be the correct diagnosis, but one of the best sayings I heard in med school was, "Just because you have ticks doesn't mean you don't also have fleas". Best of luck.

I would recommend going to a neurologist first and see what all they can rule out. Once you have it narrowed down, then see what specialist you do or don't need to see.

I got into see a neuro quickly thanks for the help guys. Unfortunately she does think an MRI and Ct is necessary.

However they just called and said bc I haven't hit my deductible yet with blue cross I am responsible for 1000$ out of pocket. Can you negotiate that down when the bill comes? I need this test but don't have the funds for that yikes !

You can definitely price shop these items, and negotiate a cash pay price. Specifically, you should look for freestanding centers, not affiliated with any hospital

But if it's medically necessary due to your diagnosis, wouldn't you be able to?
