Went down the rabbit hole of the new mustang dark horse SC a few months ago but decided on a Z06 instead. Very happy with it. Figured I would share.

That's hideous. I'll volunteer as tribute to take it off your hands for a small fee.

Actually yes. I know most tracks will require a helmet. Any recommendations on that are welcome.

Well if you don't have a helmet I'm going to assume you have never been on track before, so my advice would be buy a baclava (head mask) and rent a helmet your first weekend. You don't want to buy an expensive helmet and then decide the adrenaline rush of track driving a $200k car isn't for you. You could also pick up a cheap helmet if you would rather not rent a helmet. Zamp is an inexpensive brand. I like open face because I feel less claustrophobic and feel I have better peripheral vision, but most people go full face because of the airbags. The SNELL ratings just changed in 2025, so you can probably get a SNELL 2020 zamp for about $200. Most schools are still letting people use SNELL 2015 rated helmets, so being behind isn't a big deal.

You need to find a speed shop somewhere you can try on helmets before you buy. They all fit differently and certain brands work better for certain head shapes.

Where are you located? If near DFW or Houston I cannot recommend The Driver's Edge HPDE School highly enough. They run MSR Cresson and Eagle's Cannon up in DFW and MSR Houston down in Angelton. Their crew and how they run the school and particularly how they bring new drivers into the sport in a safe and controlled environment is awesome.

Doesn't Chevy offer a track driving experience for Z06 owners? You might just start there since there is no car prep necessary to run their cars.

Congrats on the awesome car, and get out on track when you are comfortable it is so much fun!!!

There's a 2-day Owners School that GM subsidizes, which drops the cost down to just $1,000. The instructors, the track, and the entire facility are absolutely first-class. If you already have track experience, you can actually skip the owner's school and apply that GM subsidy toward a Level I or Level II class instead. I've been several times and always have a great experience.

I've only run the track in Vegas( in their Z06) and they didn't require a helmet. I know some guys that run MSR Houston and I'll be getting out there soon. The vette school is on my radar but that's a long drive I won't make for atleast a year.

They provide the car, so you don't need to drive out there. They also provide safety equipment including helmets. You have 1 year to use your discounted price for the class.

I know a guy who went to that school in Vegas back when the base C8 was new and people were waiting over a year and paying huge dealer markups. He loved the school and highly recommended it.

Congrats on the car, it is beautiful. I drove a C8 Z06 at the Exotics Racing track in Vegas about a year ago and they required everyone to wear a helmet. Is there another track in Vegas?

I don't recommend the "baclava" being worn under a helmet, kinda messy and sticky, but a delicious snack, just keep it in the console.

I'll plug Rick and Driver's Edge again. Even if you have friends that are members, Rick's events are top notch and can offer something for every level of experience. If you have some experience, starting in Green with that car will suck, but if your talent and most importantly track awareness / safety are up to snuff they'll put you in a check ride to advance you to Blue the same weekend. The real fun starts in Yellow where most of the drivers are pretty good and you are likely to have guest teachers from the professional racing ranks.

Have a blast with that supercar!

You can get them for $120k +TTL. They go up from there. You'll be keeping up with all of the $300k+ cars and beating a lot of them.
Roger350

Yeah I was approximating the price. Like the above poster said I think they start at about $120k, but I think it is very easy to option them up over $150k and throw in TTL and any ADM and $200k is not far off. They are a screaming value regardless when comparing the price to their competition that they will walk away from on track.
