Guy living across the street from my office backed into my 2021 Ram. Back corner of cab and the rear quarter are damaged. Door appears unscathed.

Also , he wants me to get an estimate and let him know what it will be before filing with insurance, says he may offer to pay out of pocket. I'm guessing the only reason I would agree is to keep it off the claim record? I hear claiming diminished value can be a pain.

You should 100% file a separate diminished value claim for that type of damage. They'll likely paint 3 panels to blend the paint. That part is easier than dealing with the rest of the logistics of having a vehicle down in my experience. Looks like the edge of the door was scratched, but could be the computer. I'd guess $5-7K.

Had a lady hit my F-150 in a parking lot like that but ripped the aluminum body at the front door..

Her insurance fixed it and like noted above they had to repaint half of the hood, fender and both doors.

I am very pleased with the work; it looks like new.

Yep, you are correct. The door panel is very slightly bent at the corner. And right on the money....the quote is almost $6K.. Filing with his insurance.
