I took the plunge and purchased a 2024 Jeep wagoneer from mark Dodge Jeep in lake Charles (very good buying experience, straight forward pricing). I have never bought an extended warranty in my life, but with all the electronics (and this being a Jeep) I am contemplating buying one. They are offering 6 years 75,000 miles bumper to bumper for 2800. I'm sure I can get them a little lower. I have plenty of cash reserves to cover repairs, just wondering if I will come out better with warranty. If I should buy it, what is a fair price? I know about 50% of this cost is advertising.

They are evaluated on a macro, not individual, basis. Some people WILL come out ahead, as I have one one or two. Others won't use it at all, as I did on a couple of more. If you're buying a used, 5-ish year near 100K mile vehicle, I'd say an extended warranty is almost a no-brainer. However, I didn't get one on a Rav4 I bought in 2018 and in that case, made the right decision. Of course, that Toyota was one of the more reliable models of a super reliable brand. On the other hand, I got one with a 5 year old F150.

New or newer used vehicles and non-sketchy reliability, like I had with my Maxima a decade or so ago, again, I passed. The only thing on that one was I tried to negotiate the price of it down and they wouldn't come off what I wasn't going to pay, so I didn't get it.

Get it. We love our wagoneer but these vehicles aren't cheap to fix. And with the full warranty, you'll get everything fixed you want.

I had a rattle in my headliner, they found 2 broken clips out of… a bunch. Entire thing got replaced for free.

Find a Wagoneer Client Services rates dealer. Free loaners. They pick up your car and drop off for service. Wash it and fill with gas.


Also, we just had ours chrome deleted and wheels powder coated. It's sick.

Make sure to get it ceramic coated ASAP. Our clear coat was very soft and swirls showed up quickly. Had it paint corrected and ceramic coated and it looks so much better.

Peace of mind. $2,800 is nothing for a real issue repair bill.

We just bought one on our used Highlander. Dealer wanted $2500/$100 deductible for their warranty. Can't remember exactly what the terms were. We went through our credit union and got a 5 year, 50k (bought it with ~50k miles and it's up to 100k miles) for $1600/$0 deductible bumper to bumper. My dad's family uses them for all of their vehicles and the dealerships he's taken it to have told him they wish everyone used this company because of how easy they are to deal with. I believe it's with IWS.

We were going to refinance through them as well to put it on the note as well as changing the GAP coverage to them because we paid the dealer $1k and the CU's was $400. We ended up just paying for the warranty separately.

I'll never do anything extra through a dealership again.

My typical vehicle purchase is a 75,000 + mile, 3-4 year old truck. My last 3 I've driven to 250k +.

I typically will buy the extended warranty and keep it for about 1/3 of the timeframe. Meaning if its a 3 yr 36k extra, by 1 year in I've usually got enough drive time to suspect anything out of whack a warranty might cover, as well as several oil changes/tire rotations etc.

After that time I cancel it and take the check.

I've bought 4 warranties. 3 of which I "wasted money". 1 of which paid for head gaskets, AC compressor, internal AC parts/blowers etc. So on the whole I'm probably even.

If you do buy the extended warranty, I'd suggest taking your vehicle in for service. Make sure the reciept shows the "multi point inspection" or which parts were checked. Warranty company will look for any reason to deny a claim, and if you can't prove things were checked or inspected, that usually fits the bill.

When I bought my f150 new in 2019 they offered the extended warranty for about $1250($15/month). Easy decision for that price. Ended up bringing my truck in for cam phaser replacement and something else that totaled around $4500. When my warranty was close to running out recently Ford started sending me emails and mail about purchasing a new extended warranty. Went to the website to see what the cost was knowing with more years and mileage it would be more than the original extended warranty. Can't remember how many years or miles the warranty was for, but they wanted $100 a month for the new extended warranty. Easy nope.

Either get an extended warranty or keep about 4-6K in cash.

At this point, I would argue extended warranties are a no brainer outside of a few select brands - maybe Lexus, Hyundai, and Kia don't need one...

Ours have lapsed but we had them on both of our Cadillacs and they more than paid for themselves. To add, the cost of repairs on cars these days are astronomical. This isn't the early aughts anymore. A $2-3k insurance plan can easily get consumed by one mishap.

My wife's A/C cratered about a month after getting extended warranty which would have been $5k out of pocket. Paid half that for the policy.

I would think Ford ESP, but curious on 1ags response.

I bought a 2019 f-250 in November and am about to pull the trigger on a ford esp plan. Granger Ford and Zeigler had the best prices for my truck.

I did one on my CPO Ford. There's not much I can fix in these new vehicles. Brakes, Oil, tires, wipers. Think that's about it.
Shop online dealers though, not sure who the Jeep one is, but certain there is one. I saved about 800 bucks, and added 1 year and 20k miles vs what the dealer sold me.

Extended warranty programs are a cash cow for the stealership. I've handled the liquidation of several . As said above, put the money in savings.
