I emailed reproag and he was very up-front - "I have one car that isn't pre-sold. Let me know if you want it." Saved me an hour drive.
Good on him.

I wish that wasnt a rarity...

Hopefully I was a little more cordial then that.

Markets tend to rebound like rubber bands. I would be shocked if the current shortage doesn't end up in a surplus relatively soon.

You were, but that was my takeaway. It was refreshingly simple and easy.

Don't think so. Supply chain resiliency unlikely for a good while. We're seeing "stealerships" turn into Amazon lockers for online car purchases. And their profitability is supposedly way more better without the overhead burden of inventory maintenance, etc.

Dealerships don't get to dictate what cars they take. Manufacturers will continue to ship as cars are ready whether they are selling through or not, because that is when they get to recognize the sale.

Like any other business, those that play the long game and continue to provide value to their customers don't have to "sell" because they will have a constant influx of buyers referred over clamoring to buy from an honest value driven entity.

These dealerships with their bull**** shenanigans will move vehicle at the cost of sheister salesman and a bad reputation. Everyone is doing it is a bull**** proposition and a bull**** response.

It's the long or infinite game versus the immediate buck.

Port Lavaca is awful. Went once and won't go back. Tried the bait and switch on me.

Called Cavender in Weimar and drove an hour the opposite direction. Sales rep told me he would make it worthwhile. Sure enough they did. Very pleased with the purchase and service.

Ditto Port Lavaca Ford.

Drove 2 hours to buy a truck. Had verified with 2 different people at the dealership that it had some very specific options on it that were mandatory for me. BOTH people told me they went to the truck, laid eyes on it and yes, those features were on it.

Got there and guess what? Literally NONE of those features were on the truck.

So either they lied about going out to the truck and checking it, or they lied blatantly about it having something it didn't have in order to get me on a lot and try to switch me into something else, which they did try to do.

Dirty.
