How long do you want to ignore this user?

I recently bought a used truck and it only had 1 key fob. Salesman told me I could buy the fob on Amazon and program it myself. I am beginning to think that was inaccurate. So I need to program a new key fob but am not having any luck. Am I going to have to take this to a dealer?

A1 Locksmith (Dallas) had fob inventory on hand. Took about 20 min...was less than a hundred on mine. Well worth it to have a spare imho. Good luck!

If you buy the Dorman fob, you'll get a tool that plugs into the OBD2 port that allows you to program. It runs ~$75 and should work with non-Dorman fobs too

https://www.amazon.com/Motormite-99352-Keyless-Remote-Button/dp/B078XJWCH7

Without their tool, you need a scan tool that can do bidirectional controls.
