Do those rental cars have any factory warranty? Or are limited to what Hertz offers? If they go teetz up, then YOYO...

I wouldn't touch one of those with a ten foot pole.

We rented a convertible of the previous generation 8-10 years ago in Vegas to cruise around on a Sunday. Was a pretty nice bang for the buck and saved me a lot of money not gambling and drinking for a day. No way in hell I would buy one after having 100's of folks rag on them.

To quote one of my favorite TexAgs Automotive Board replies when someone asked

"would you buy a former rental car"?

The reply (I do not remember who said it) was

"would you marry a former prostitute"?

First, they're yellow, so that automatically disqualifies them for me. Second, there's no way I'm paying around $60k for a vette with 30-40k "drive it like you stole it" miles. You can get a vette that was babied and has lower miles for that. Might take a chance if they were about half the listed prices.

Yeah, 30k miles, 5k are burn outs.

It might be a good deal for $40k or less

if price was right, it could potentially be worth it if you are going to redo the power train anyways and get it cammed and blown.

Wholesale market right now is in the ****ter. I'm sure hertz is looking to get a little in front of the curve with their high dollar units at the peak Month of when corvette Values are typically highest.

There's a huge data gap that lots of fleet companies are not sure where they are going to end up on when auctions start going back o normal. Hedging bets. These corvettes are $3k back of pre covid auction values. Post covid valuations may be normalizing in 3-4 months, no telling where on the spectrum they are.

All that being said, these could be smoking deals or overvalued rentals in a couple months. That CTS-V wagon was worth $52k pre covid when it was first posted here. Honestly, $42k is probably a little light based on limited sales data, but I think once cars start moving through wholesale channels again that $42k number is going to be a lot truer than we think now.

I drove this Hemi Ram rental from enterprise today. This is why you don't buy former rentals:

Hertz may be flooding the market of lots of cars soon... they just declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Always seemed to be a very saturated market.

I wonder how all their internal leases and the bond-like lease portfolio stuff will impact this. Could get complicated.

It's very possible the oil was changed but the "timer" wasn't reset.

Likely IMO. Rental companies are supposedly good about routine maintenance. They treat the cars well. It's the customers that you have to worry about.

I bought a suburban rental. No problems. Like any used car it's a crap shoot. Bought it as 18k miles now it's at 130k.

The question is do you wait to buy a car?

What a ridiculous business model to have in general....really hertz, $60, $70k rentals? I know they aren't the only ones that do this...

Right.... if they're $60K+ as a used rental, they were really overpriced to begin with. All slush box cars as well. I'd never buy an auto vette, especially not with the 8 speed.

You might not, but something like 75% of new and recent vettes are auto.

I would be a lot more leery of buying a Vet or other sports car than a Suburban or other car. Not saying a Suburban can't be abused but I would think people renting sports cars have the intention of "testing them out"!
