Currently in the market for a new vehicle with three rows and captain chairs in the second row. (No center console between the captain chairs, so the kids hop to the third row with ease).

Currently looking at three vehicles:
-Chevy Tahoe
-KIA Telluride
-Hyundai Palisade

And thoughts on these or any other vehicles with captain chairs?

I had the previous generation Tahoe (2013) so take this with a grain of salt. I had the captain chairs, and they were not good. very close to the front seats and the third row in the Tahoe was a joke. It's 'okay' for small kids.

Now, the newer generation may be better, but my suggestion is that if you need something with room and a functional third row, Tahoe is not your vehicle.

Expedition. Wife has a 2013. Kids never complained about the comfort of the second row captains chairs.

My wife has an expedition with 2nd row captains and it's easy to get into the third row. I think the Pilot has that option as well and is my choice for her next car. My vote doesn't matter though.

My wife's explorer has that seating configuration if you are interested in something a little smaller than the Tahoe.

We have a Pilot Elite, which has captain's chairs in the second row. Kid's and wife love it. It's the best family car we've owned. Just recently took a trip with 4 large adults, 3 kids (10,12,15yo) to galveston and back. No complaints, and would buy again without hesitation.

Additionally, Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander, VW Atlas, and Subaru Ascent all have 2nd row captain chairs

Seems odd to cross-shop Tahoe and the Korean twins while leaving out the other CUVs

Yeah, I will say that unless you need to tow, the Tahoe should not be on your list. As far as a people a gear hauler, it's outclassed by all these listed and problem several more that haven't been listed.

We had captains chairs in 2nd row of our Oddysey- prevented arguments and saved a lot of wear and tear on our kids ass.

The Telluride is awesome.

The Subaru Ascent has a pretty small 3rd row.

Haven't driven the new Explorer but I dig the design. Inside and out. I don't think it's a great value, especially compared to the Telluride/Palisade

Thanks for the response. I'll avoid the Tahoe. The Palisade and Telluride seems to be the best bang for the buck.

I wanted to go the minivan route but my wife is pretty against it. She is also against Fords. Something about having bad experiences with Explorers and Expeditions in her high school and early college years.

Sister got a brand new 2019 one. It's perfect for it for 4 captain chairs. Kids go in between. Highly recommended.

Telluride May still be 8 to 10k over MSRP.

Volvo XC90. Wife loves hers. I enjoy driving it too, though I haven't driven it much. Tons of safety and technology stuff that I haven't had time to figure out how to turn off yet.

I like the look of the Huyundai over the Kia.

Opinions . . . so interesting. The Hyundai has a much more traditional CUV look, and I get why it appeals. I prefer bits of the Palisade interior for sure, but prefer the exterior of the Telluride.

Something to consider. The Palisade is available with power folding 3rd row. Currently the Telluride is not.

how old are the kids and what's her beef with the minivan? I think we all know the answer but it never hurts to get specifics.

My buddy had a 12 expedition xl with the captains chairs in the 2nd row. I've rode in the back seat a few times and as someone who's 6'3 I had absolutely no complaints on space. If I ever go to an SUV it's going to be an expedition max with 2nd row captains if they still offer it.

Wife went with the Palisade Limited. Pretty sweet ride. Ridiculous amount of tech and gadgets. Kids love it as well.

the odyssey and pacifica SUVs have captains chairs, plus sweet sliding doors to make it easy to get in and out of.

5 and 3. Planning to have at least one more "soon". I'm not sure on her beef with the minivan. Just know it's not worth trying to convince. Gotta pick and choose battles.

I like the interior of the Palisade a lot and the powered 3rd row. The Telluride just looks better on the exterior and comes with similar features.
