Check engine light came on. Read the code and it's "minor emissions leak".
05 Sierra, 170k miles... daily commuter (1.5 miles) and hunting/fishing/etc truck. Do not give a crap about emissions. Truck runs fine.

Do I need to chase this down? Don't even know where to begin.

I guess I'm looking to see whether or not the board will bless me ignoring this one.

I'd throw a new gas cap on it.

My '04 Sierra did the same thing somewhere around that mileage, and a new cap cured it. Finally got rid of it at 230k and nary a problem.

Do you have emissions testing in WV? (I think I know the answer..)

Interesting. Might be worth throwing $6 at one on Amazon.

We have inspections... I don't think they use a sniffer or anything. Usually they just use it as a chance to shake you down for tires/brakes/light bulbs etc.

What's the actual code?

Could be the purge assembly hose that sits above your spare.

I agree with 1ags. Minor leaks are USUALLY hoses or the valve at the tank or the purge valve. Gas Caps usually show up as major leaks.

Don't have the actual numerical code written down... it was all seamless on the autozone guy's code reader. He offered no solutions as to parts to throw at it.

You guys have forgotten more about automobiles than I will ever learn. Damn you and your commitment to a subject!

OK I'm a total amateur, but AutoZone employees are barely literate.

Last year I asked an AutoZone employee for some 3/8" power steering hose. He took me to the back, then looked at some hose for a good minute, then told me he wasn't sure he could cut a hose that short....
