Howdy, I may be picking up an older TL for a commuter vehicle and noticed these tires had some cracks. I'm almost positive the manufacture date was sometime in 2014 and there's about 1/2 tread left. They're the Yokohama YK580 sold through Discount,a pretty high rated tire. Would you replace or are the cracks superficial in nature?

I've got tires with more cracking than that and they passed inspection.

In reality those are old tires that are getting hard. They won't perform like new tires, especially in the rain. But for a commuter? I'd keep them. No sense in spending money on fresh rubber when you can get probably 20k miles out of those.

When the sidewall by the rim starts to crack, replace the tire.

The cracking along where the tread meets the sidewall is the most disturbing part.

I'd let DT have a look at those.

My mom's Genesis is starting to show the same thing.

I'm almost as surprised that they aren't Michelins. Every set I've had has cracked like this.

Is that an impact bubble on the 8 of the 580 on the sidewall?

Hard to tell if it's a bubble or just a shadow.
