Here are the first 2 build threads:

This one details the supercharger installation

This one details conversion from manual to 4L60e

The last part of the auto swap details some issues that I was having at the track where I would run out of fuel midway through the run. Well, even though I didnt have that issue again later in the year, it appears that the damage was done. I first recognized it as excessive blowby around new years eve. There was oil coming out of the BOV. After further checking, I had low compression in #1 cylinder. After disassemble and pulling the motor, i discovered my fears were true: Busted ring land on #1 piston.

So now I'm building a forged motor and planning lots of other upgrades as well. More details to follow, just getting this thread started for now.

Mods:
1. Remachine my aluminum LS6 block, using stock crank (good to 1000rwhp), K1 forged rods, Wiseco forged pistons, AP gapless rings, tool steel wrist pins, ARP main studs, ARP head studs.
2. Howards Cam for boost: 236/250, .625/.625, 115 LSA
3. Fix the fuel system: Twin Walbro 450's in the tank, 142# injectors, -08AN lines to the fuel rail, Holley Boost referenced fuel pressure regulator and -06AN return line. Should be good for 1000+whp on e85.
4. Attempt to convert my Gen III PCM to a flex fuel PCM. This involves taking a PCM from an '05 Van, adding a flex fuel sensor in the return line, and lots of magic in HP Tuners.
5. Pulley down??? May go from a 3.33 to a 3.125.

Update #1:

So far, I have gotten the engine back from machine shop and just doing some cleaning up, chasing bolt holes, etc.

I have received rods and bearings, but the pistons are long lead. Switched from Wiseco to CP for a shorter delivery, but still no idea when they will get here. Wrong time of year to order pistons.

At any rate, I bought a powder coating machine and a used oven off craigslist. I started PC brackets and components for cleaning up the engine bay. So far I have done supercharger brackets, intake piping, motor mounts, alternator bracket, valve covers, fuel rails and front and rear engine covers. Im not a pro at it yet, and there are some blemishes. Still trying to perfect the routine. Here are a few pics:

Valve covers (shaved and cleaned up) and fuel rails:

Front and rear engine covers:

The other things that I cant PC are getting VHT Engine enamel Gloss Black. I am doing throttle body, oil pan (upper and lower) and the block.

To Do:
1. 243 Heads are out getting ported and valve job.
2. Waiting on pistons to do balance on rotating assembly.
3. New intercooler (Treadstone) mounted in the car, but I dont like it so I am going to redo/relocate it.
4. Cleaning up the block, should be done this week.
5. Start reassembly.

I also PC'd my intake. Yes, plastic intake. As long as it can handle the heat of baking, it will take a PC. I heated it up, fogged the PC, heated partially, then fogged again. Hindsight i should have done a light second coat, because the finish is rough. But its not horrible. I had read that you need to experiment on one that you wont be using...but I didnt have a spare intake so I had one shot.

Here is a preview of all of it together. Cant wait to get it all on the motor.

It's been a long wait, but the pistons are finally in at my tuner/supplier.

That means I wait another 1-1.5 weeks for a balance on the rotating assembly.

Heads will be done at that point too.

Looking good! I've never seen the vasoline on the oil pump trick. Were you just test fitting the knock sensors in that one pic?

Read the vasoline trick somewhere. I used it when I did the DOD delete on my yukon and didnt have any issues. Figured i would try it again with this build.

Test fitting. Yes, that's it. Test fitting. LOL Figured out last night that the valley cover goes on first.

While Im telling on myself, Last night I made a tool from 4" PVC pipe to help center the rear cover around the crank so that the rear main seal doesnt leak. I went through the steps of loosely securing the rear cover, applying the pipe and some shims to center the rear cover, torqued it down to the block and to the oil pan. Installed the flexplate and bell housing. Went to clean everything up at about 1030 last night and found the rear main seal laying there behind where I was working. I never put it in! I called myself a dumbass for about 5 minutes while finishing cleaning up.

So now the bell housing and flex plate have to come back off....

Startup was planned for last Saturday. Late in the day it started and ran, but had some issues that I need to address this week. The engine ran great and sounded good. The drive train had a noise that ruined the great sounds coming from the engine.

Hopefully next weekend goes better.

My tuner is in East Dallas. He has been tuning mine since I went supercharged 2 years ago. Pretty well respected on the Corvette Forums. His screen name is "BlownBlueZ06" aka Bret.

With the 3.125" pulley on the Ysi, I am targeting 900 rwhp. Dont really want more than that at this point, wanna see how the drivetrain does first.

I put 870 to the wheels on a stingy mustang dyno through a 6 speed. Only 11 pounds of boost. But when I swapped to a auto it robbed 100 hp. And I went to a 9in. Car weights 4100 with me in it. I went a 10:20 at 136 a few weeks ago. I just want a 9:99 and I'll be happy. it's a 414 lme built ls based motor. 4l80e trans. I'll post a few pics soon.

I did the 4l60e auto swap last year. I was ~700rwhp before the auto swap. I never dyno'd with the auto, dont ever plan to (its hard on them). But after the auto swap I ran a 10.12 at 136.5. I've never weighed the car.

For me, the proof will be at the track. Dont care what a dyno says. I should be close to 8's.

Thats enough to heat a mcmansion. How big of a cooler did you have to add to make it last between oil changes?

The 4l80e is a large trans. Heavy. I run a external cooler with a spal fan with a shroud.

Bumping this one back to the top.

This turned into the project from hell. Yes, its been almost a year since i last posted. No, the car isnt running at this point. Here is a brief rundown:

1. Car was running as can be seen in video above.
2. Had a bad vibration starting about 2200 rpms
3. After a long time of troubleshooting, turns out the crank wasnt balanced correctly. There was a mixup between my builder and his machinist on the weights of the rotating assembly. Engines gotta come back out.
4. Sold my house, separation and divorce happened. Car got put to the side.
5. Finally pulled the engine in October. Sent it off and had crank balanced correctly this time. Also had the Level VII 4L60e gone through again and maxed out to a Level X (RPM Transmissions).
6. Put it all back together and had it running and driving.
7. Vibration was gone, car was running good, but I still had issues with knock (thinking it was false knock from the big cam and ySi supercharger). Also had some differential on the plugs - cylinders #3 and #4 were black, unlike the other 6.
8. Anther couple months of troubleshooting, a little bit of driving and it already burned up a set of rings after ~300 miles. Now all of the plugs were black as well. Determined that the engine needed to come back out to inspect the cylinder hone job and the rings.
9. Waiting on my builder to actually get to it so he could repair it under warranty. He is a single man shop that works on nights/weekends, but I wasnt gonna pay someone else to fix whatever the issue is since he is covering under his warranty.
10. Engine is coming out this weekend finally, and hopefully going back together this next week. It really depends on what we find when we break it down.
10. This has been a big learning process for me and my builder. He learned that he can no longer rely on machinists/other subs to do good work, so he bought most of the machining hisself. I learned patience....lots of patience.
11. In the meantime, I picked up a 6 pt roll cage and I will be changing the cam a little bit this time around. The last cam was just a little big for my small cubic inch motor and it had some issues around town.

Stay tuned!

Your z06 is more trouble than a Volvo wagon, spreadsheet updated.

Also I hope it comes around for you! Those are some big life changes regardless of the cars condition.
