I have a 64 C10 that has been passed down (I have previously posted on this truck). Anyway, I have been working on various items to make the driving experience better. The item up next is the shifting mechanism:

It is very sloppy to the point I get stuck in gear/lose gears/end up above both gear levers/ etc. I have already tightened up the "sleeve" as much as possible to take out the slack but that still is not enough.

Does anyone have parts numbers/kits or any kind of directions to service this? Driving this is fun but not when you are stuck in first gear.

Is a floor shift conversion an option?

My brother went from a column shift to a floor shift for the 3 speed in his old '71 bronco way back when, and it made a huge difference in how much fun it was to drive.

If you want to keep it original, you could try LMC truck, they might have new parts to take the tolerances back to new.

If the usual suspects don't seem to have anything, it's likely that their suppliers don't make it specific.

If you can figure out what size the bushings are (or were in this case) maybe you can find one that will work off of another model.

I feel your pain OP, the 3 on the tree just doesn't get the love anymore. I love column shift and toughed it out over 3-4 projects that were stove bolts equipped with them and made it work. I even did a little research on a whim if there was any way it could handle even minimal LS power and the results were discouraging.

I just pulled a *TRANSMISSION* and all the linkage from our '68 project. We are planning on keeping the same column so I can't really offer any of the guts there, but if you think any of the linkage from the column to the *TRANSMISSION* is your problem I'll dig them out of the scrap iron pile and see if they're any better than what you have.

I don't know if you ever frequent over there but the name is misleading, 67-72 Chevy Trucks dot Com is WAY more than just 67-72. You won't have to hang out there long to find a nice 3 speed column pullout for sale cheap.

ETA - ****** is censored, really? It was THAT big a problem? hahahaha

Centerpole90, thanks for the reply.

This topic is pretty sporadic online and most of the solutions are "make your own" or "take in the pieces to NAPA and find a similar fit". That is an OK option but was hoping to get a kit to knock it out.

Transmission to linkage is a little sloppy but once again mostly due to the rubber parts. Fortunately, the pieces are most readily available. I do appreciate the offer but I think the iron linkage from transmission to column is good.

Random thought. Are the shift rods straight? A few decades of people jamming gears could bend the shift rods out of alignment, and give you some shifting problems.

Big bump. I am trying to find the following (obsolete) part numbers and I cannot find anything. I am hoping the all knowing AB may be able to assist:

Two- 3771727 Lever Assembly
One- 3773472 Tube Assembly

Thanks Fife. I figure with the wealth of knowledgeable people here, someone might have a lead.

FYI

My '66 is a 4OTF, but the 67-72 site has really good info for the C-10.

Classicparts.com used to be Chevy Duty. I traded with them for years and they are fantastic. Another great place is Jim Carter's. http://www.oldchevytrucks.com/

They are both a great source of parts and information. If you can't find what you need online, call them. Chevy Duty is better for new replacement parts, and Jim Carter may have more obscure original parts like the column shifter box.

Still no answer from LMC Truck? You're making me a little nervous because they're who I was going to try with my F-100 next year.

Fife, I have not reached out to them individually for these part(s). I will check in although the specific parts I am looking for seem to not exist at least in repro parts. I think it is going to come down to salvage.

tree, thanks, I will check them out too.

At least put some bushings in where they used to be on the shift linkages. Then make sure the neutral gate is set properly or it will never shift right.

Oh, nevermind, I see that photo is not yours so I can't help.
