Thanks guys and howdy 1Ags, been a little while!

Someone please explain swag and bob, no idea what that stuff means.

I'm going to go see it shortly at the tow yard. If I can get the hood open I will take some pictures.

Super wild ass guess is how I learned it.

However looking at Urban Dictionary, it seems to have morphed into "secretly we are gay".

No idea if your car is totaled, but I recognize the location on Jolleyville Rd. in Austin. On a side note, wrecks will probably be more common in that area if the genius traffic planners here take out a traffic lane to expand the bike lanes like they have proposed doing.

Haha, so putting in a bike lane may actually make it more dangerous for bikers?

I feel like the guy at fault probably got enough of what he deserved by totaling his vehicle and having to deal with his insurance raising his rates.

A citation on top of it all makes me feel kind of bad for him. But I guess this is how we MAGA!

And......totaled!

And....Safeco insurance is trying to give me at least $1k less than it would cost to replace it. Any tips on fighting that besides sending them links of the same car for sale with prices?

Is Safeco his insurance or yours?
I've always been of the opinion that you are your insurance companies customer, you're not the customer of his insurance customer. You pay them, you weren't at fault, he was issued a citation. Get them involved.

I could go through either but chose to use Safeco because I have heard bad things about the other guys company, Geico. Safeco will collect from Geico.

Yep, I sent comps last night.

Carmax produced 19 hits nationally for the exact same car as mine.

Average price is $16,761.53 with an average of 32,684 miles.

They are trying to give me $13,935 for mine with 36,5XX miles.

Auto policy is not a "replacement cost" policy, it is an "actual cash value" policy.

Carmax has reconditioned the vehicle to make it ready to sell, probably $500 - $1000 (tires, brakes, etc..), and leave room for profit. Not unusual for them to sell a vehicle for $3K more than they paid for it.

What would Carmax pay you for your vehicle prior to wreck? That number is closer to "actual cash value".

That said, send all those comps to the ins company and tell them the number that you want.

i think it was allstate that i saw advertising a full car replacement cost type of policy, but yeah that's generally not the norm unless stated.

Which unfortunately is what most say because they don't understand that an auto/home/life insurance policy is a contract with specific provisions. Read your contract, discuss with your agent, be better informed.

Not to say there isn't room for negotiation.

New option available from some carriers, typically only applies to new vehicles with limited miles.

And the option adds premium costs which alot of consumers don't want to pay.

They raised the settlement so I'm only out $200 which I can live with.

Now to find another vehicle...if I am wanting a spacious, well equipped used vehicle that gets really good MPG is there anything that beats this for the money? I was getting about 37 MPG combined.

If it costs $X to replace a car, isn't that the "actual cash value"? I always felt like if I lost a vehicle to a wreck, I deserved to receive enough money from insurance to buy another vehicle just like it, and be out $0 dollars, after tax, title, license and dealer mark up.

It's not like I can replace the car without paying all that.

I can see your argument if I'm dealing with my insurance, but the other guy's insurance should make me whole. I should not be out a dime for his screw up.
