My AC has been going in and out for a few months but I haven't cared since it has been cool. I have been getting the AC OFF on the display. The blower blows but no cool air. Also, my temp gauge doesn't move at all.

Conveniently, I received a recall notice for my AC harness and capacitor, so I'm definitely gonna get that done.

My question: does the harness and capacitor (located behind glovebox) have any effect on the temp gauge or will that be a new thermostat purchase?

Your engine temp gauge?

Have you checked to see if you have coolant in the radiator?

When was the coolant last changed?

How about the cooling fan? Works ok?

Poor engine cooling system performance will also give you poor HVAC performance.

Yes, the engine temp gauge.
Coolant reservoir looked empty, not sure about radiator.
Coolant probably not changed in a looong time.
Cooling fan meaning the one behind the radiator?

I bought some coolant today and will fill it up tomorrow. If there is a leak, where is a typical leaking point?

Yes, the engine temp gauge.

Usually a non moving gauge is a bad stepper motor, bad/disconnected sensor, air pocket in the cooling system or no coolant.

There should be a high and low mark in the reservoir. I'd put some in ASAP.

I'd recommend changing it if its got over 75K on it since the last change.

Yes. Not sure which engine you have, but IIRC all H3s had electric fans. These will also NOT come on if the temp sensor is not reading right due to reasons listed above.

Also, make sure you buy the right coolant. Dont mix green with the factory stuff.

The auto parts store should sell either Dexcool or "All makes/colors/kinds" thats compatible with all of it. Buy pre-diluted or add some coolant and add some water (Distilled preferable).

filled it with coolant, checked all wires associate with coolant sensors (hopefully).

Started car and AC OFF still showed for about 5 mins, then the notice turned off and AC kicked back in. Hopefully it stays that way now.

While AC OFF was displayed the fan was still spinning.

How low on coolant were you?

There was none in reservoir.

How much of it sucked into the radiator?

I'd check the reservoir again.

Looks like it dropped about 2-3 inches since fill up.
