Ok, so you got a smoking deal at 40% off. If you got 40% off the $38K 2017 truck that would be OTD at $22.8K. With inflation your truck maybe cost $16K in 2017 dollars so it still looks a good $6.8K increase, or 42.5%. But quadrupling, or even doubling, wasn't really an apples to apples comparison.

Pickups really starting to get expensive and fancy 10 or 15 years ago. From work to status vehicle.

2008 F250 XL 2dr. - 6 spd. MSRP: $25000 OTD: $15,000
2017 F250 XL - 6 spd. MSRP: DNE
2017 F250 XL 2dr. - auto. MSRP: $38,000 OTD: ??? Doubt one is sitting on a lot.
Hey, good news, a national search of 2008 F250 XL trucks with a gas engine and manual transmission shows the average price is $13,400 - held it's value very well.

Sure, but I don't know your exact options, so I just filter by XL trim. Found a silver one if you'd like to see it.

Yes it has. Although only in private sale. Trade-in would be around $5k.

It made sense to keep the paid-off workhorse and buy something new. Would have been tough to move a refrigerator in a Mustang.

Power windows/locks
RKE
Towing mirrors
Brake controller
Upfitter Switches
SYNC 3 (preferred. Anything that controls an iPhone through the wheel works)

It's all OE.
I added the TBC which was the most significant cost because of the new master cylinder at around $300.
RKE was an "as built" data change.
The iPhone integration was a $50 kit.

If you care to see the As-built:

Also, I never wanted a diesel. V10 was the choice depending on the electronics involved... never got around to checking and the V8 is still not complaining. 4x4 was the other "crazy" thing that hasn't happened yet. ...although it's more possible now that I DD a car.

What truck (make/model/cab config/engine/drivetrain) did you get for $15K in 2008? Was it a fullsize? That seems remarkably low.

15 was probably a decent drive out price during that time period. A partner and I were looking at possibly getting one and I recall MSRP around 17, but this was a single cab with basic options like power windows.

When I bought my Tacoma in 2014 and priced some full sized trucks, I was blown away at the price increase over 5-6 years.
