2012 6.7 liter. 140,000 miles.

Happened yesterday evening and can't replicate. No lights or warnings on dash. Oil level looks normal.

Any ideas? Should I take it to a mechanic to be sure?

White is usually coolant leaking into the heads

Did the smoke dissipate quickly or could you see it for a distance?

For some reason I'm thinking the same thing...

If it doesn't replicate it wouldn't be anything internal.

Large temp/humidity swing yesterday? (That is did you hit the dew point in the exhaust a la a wet stack) Is the coolant level low? What was ambient temp?

Could be coolant, could be an injector. Probably just cold. Dew point and all that. My 7.3's been blowing smoke (on cold mornings) since dad bought it in 2000. Still runs like a charm.

Seeing that it is winter, how is the coolant in both systems? (You have 2 separate systems)

Let me rephrase, the smoke continued for a couple hundred yards, but didn't linger in the air per se

Coolants levels seem fine

It wasn't like the normal winter start-up whee you can see the exhaust coming out of the tailpipe, I'm fairly positive this was something being burned out through the exhaust.

We had a JD cotton stripper last year with a stuck injector. If I remember correctly, that smoke looked white.

Problem is you have a dpf on that truck. There should bever be any engine-related smoke coming out the exhaust UNLESS the DPF is cracked.

My guess is the exhaust heated up and you had condensing water for a little while
