Did you see the Victoria Advocate online?

Your police chief and city attorney were just indicted on several felonies relating to the release of evidence to the press and witness tampering.

What you residents don't know is that this same scenario happened in 2004 when then Police Chief Tim Braaten refused to leak the info to he press. Braaten was forced to retire by Smith and the City Council. Braaten has since taken a higher position with the State of Texas as Executive Director of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.

What is wrong with this scenario? The Victoria Advocate knew all of this, but refused to report it in 2004. So, you have been living with corrupt city officials in bed with a corrupt paper for over 4 years. Makes you feel good, doesn't it?

Let the Victoria Advocate know how you feel. It will be especially hilarious when David Tewes, a reporter with the Victoria Advocate, and his superiors testify that they have been getting fed info from the indicted attorney David Smith for several years, knowing the process is illegal. That will be great.

City Attorney Smith has taken the due process clause of the Constitution and made it his own personal toilet paper. Releasing evidence to the press to ensure indictments of high profile accused persons.

Congrats Victoria powers that be, you made your bed and now you have to lie in it.

Isn't Victoria in Central Texas?

PJ its not Central Texas. Just 120 miles from anywhere - SA/Houston/Austin/ 90 from Corpus and about 40 from the Coast. Victoria still can't figure out one high school or two...

inozips,

That's because they used to have one high school with mostly black kids and one with mostly white kids. I was shocked when our McAllen schools played the two Victoria schools and one had almost all black cheerleaders/basketball players and one had almost all white cheerleaders/basketball players. (back in the day).

I think they have been struggling with this issue for years and finally have decided to just have one 11-12 high school and one 9-10 high school.

I also have difficulty understanding how cities are identified as south Texas. How can Houston be a southeast Texas city? How can Temple be a central Texas city, it is almost 400 miles from the valley and Dallas is only 500! South Texas is south of a line from Corpus to Three Rivers to Del Rio. San Antonio is central Texas. :-)

I have never known any city officials to be legit, it is laughable when politicians/city officials utter the famous "I am a public servant". By servant I guess they mean self serve.

Thanks Rat, Victoria was my first stop out of A&M in 1980. I get back occasionally to visit old friends.
