Anyone have any reqs for dyslexia tutors in the Cypress/Fairfield area? My son (7yo finishing 1st grade) was diagnosed this year and is way behind on reading & site words in particular. We were looking at summer school but found out yesterday that the district doesn't provide dyslexia services during summer school so we are looking for alternatives to help get him caught up for next year.

I would contact https://www.neuhaus.org for recommendations. We hired a Neuhaus certified tutor for our son when he was about the same age and it was life changing.

I'll second the Neuhaus suggestion. Don't expect help from the school. The Houston Chronicle ran a series about the state of Texas short-changing special needs students with inadequate funding. I couldn't understand at the time why our son's local elementary refused to offer dyslexia help even though it was evident.

Found a tutor via Neuhaus (maybe 3rd grade year?). Really helped and he's doing quite excellent now (engineering major in college). Might cost a bit, but it was worth it.

His school has been pretty helpful so far. His "homeroom" teacher has made a few mistakes including him on some activities (spelling tests too advanced for where he is) that caused him some frustration but he has 2-3 other teachers/paras that work with him just about every day. His "homeroom" teacher recommended him for summer school to get caught up on reading & site words but as I mentioned above we didn't find out until yesterday that there wouldn't be any dyslexia specialists there so we are really questioning the point.

It's great the the homeroom teacher wants to help. But those concessions aren't a substitute for a specialist in dyslexia. A specialty-trained dyslexia teacher is someone different. And pricier. Thus a possible reason your kid isn't getting one-on-one help from a specialist.
