https://cw39.com/traffic/major-closure-of-69-59-ramp-to-610-west-loop-begins-thursday-more-closures-coming-this-weekend/

Heard this on the radio this morning. The ramps for 59 southbound to 610 northbound and 59 northbound to 610 northbound will be closed for months starting this week. T&Ps to anyone who commutes this regularly

hopefully they are making 59 southbound to 610 northbound more than one lane.

Word I've heard is that 59 south to 610 north will still be one lane. Some BS "funding" issue or something.

Perfect timing with everyone in the Galleria area finally returning to work.
Quote:

Traveling around the 69/610 interchange will look a lot different beginning Thursday night at 9 P.M. That is when TxDOT will close the ramp from 69 northbound to continue going North on 610 until further notice.

The overall project at the interchange is expected to last until 2024, according to TxDOT's Danny Perez. This particular closure of the northbound ramp is expected to remain closed until 2022.

Best to travel on weekends through the area. Oh wait...

Quote:

While the ramp closure are long term, there will also be weekend closures in the area as well. Starting at 9 P.M. on Friday and lasting until Monday at 5 A.M., all main lanes of the Southwest Fwy at 610 will be closed to traffic. Meaning all commuters will be pushed on to the frontage roads adding to the already high delays.

I work right off 59 about a mile from the southbound to 610 north ramp, which I use to get back to cypress. My 45 minute - 1 hour commute home is about to look so good in hindsight this fall.

This has been looming for a long time now, dont act all shocked. Just wait until its all finished up and that stretch STILL REMAINS the most congested stretch in TX. Gnome sayin

Oh it will be. I understand the concept of making exits farther back to reduce lane change congestion, but they haven't done this. Probably due to land constraints, the exits are still on top of each other and the one going south on 610 that exits to 59 is maybe more poorly designed than before. Plus the right exits are staying one lane. $$$$ for what??

Yes it would help if they moved the exits further back. It is short because they will not give up the street exits (Westheimer, Chimney Rock, Fournace,). No only does that pack the ramp exits, but causes radical multiple lane changes - from downtown trying to exit Chimney Rock, for example.

Multiple lane ramps won't help the traffic, it will just move the traffic jam. For example, two lanes from the south (west?) on 59 to go north on 610 would move the traffic jam from the beginning of the ramp on 59 to the end of the ramp on 610 where they would be cramming 6 or 7 lanes into 4.

Sad that they let the neighborhood talk them out of double-decking 610 from 59 to 290.
