I recommend an Au Pair If they have an extra bedroom in their house. We have one and been good experience so far and much cheaper than a nanny.

For those of you with a live-in nanny or au pair, about how much are you paying?

My wife and I have a full time nanny but we have been having issues with her availability.

I think it is around 20k plus room/board a year.

Family across the street has day time nanny and they pay over 30k.

Thanks for the replies.
We only have 1 potential candidate as a live-in nanny right now. She is asking for $800 a week. We are already on pace for at least 30k/yr with full time coverage. It is hard to find coverage from 530 to 7am down where we are.

I pay about $45k for full time for two kids, 730am-6pm for 4 days/week, then til 3pm fridays.

I pay $325/wk for a nanny for 2 kids. Here 8-5 M-Th and 8-2 on Fri...

Best place to find them cheaper - Daycares.

She gets an hour off for lunch M-Th, and has flexibility to go take tests at the JUCO when needed. The daycare was only paying her $7.50/hr, her rate comes out to $8.55/hr.

And we pay her in cash, so she is getting the full $8.55/hr.

Slave labor? Hardly. Its above minimum wage, she has job flexibility, and she's in school. Its not her lifetime job...move on.
