While our contractors have been making repairs to the MKT Bridge, they found additional damage caused by the fire that was not visible during the initial assessment. Further repairs are needed before the bridge can safely reopen. In addition, there's also damage to the bridge caused by wear and tear that we would like to address while it is closed.
Engineers are currently assessing this additional work. After the project is well defined, plans will then go to design and permitting with the City of Houston and Harris County Flood Control District. The MKT bridge is City of Houston property and HPB will continue to work closely with the City of Houston throughout this process.
As a result of this new development, and for safety reasons, the bridge will remain closed. We're disappointed that the bridge will not open as originally planned and cannot say for certain when the bridge will reopen to trail users. We will post updates as we have them and our current detour remains in place. See here: https://bit.ly/3nlrylK
We appreciate your continued patience as we work diligently to restore the bridge so that it is safe for public use.

Still don't know that I've ever seen anyone ever actually working on this bridge.
Really annoying how long it is taking to fix this.
