How long do you want to ignore this user?
thanks. that page says:

The Houston Health Department's COVID-19 vaccine waitlists are open to people age 65 and older and people age 16 and older with chronic health conditions.
So its not open to everyone at this point to get on a waiting list.

the "health conditions" are pretty wide open though

Quote:

Chronic conditions covered under Phase 1B include conditions that puts people in an increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19, including but not limited to cancer, chronic kidney disease, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease or cardiomyopathies, solid organ transplantation, obesity and severe obesity (body mass index of 30 kg/m2 or higher), pregnancy, sickle cell disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus.
BMI of 30+ is "severe obesity". If you are 6'0', that means anything over 221 is "severely obese"

It says Moderna and J&J. That's what I'm saying...how would I know which one I'm signing up for.

Is anybody's work still WFH or reduced staffing? We are. If so, has there been any announcements or changes to that policy since the governor's announcement? Our management style is to wait until we see what others are doing and then try to do that as fast as possible. Not that I'm terribly concerned one way or the other, just trying to see what's coming down the road.

HEB lists the vaccine type when you select the appointment time (after you select the date). Frankly, if you really want the shot this weekend you should already be on their website and be looking at that.

Also, part of my problem is that my eligibility is only because I'm a teacher. I meet no other criteria. When I looked last night, I only the county site and CVS had added that as an option to click.

I did click on the link you posted to check, but all appointments were already taken at the 6 closest locations to me.

I'll keep checking.

We are WFH right now, but corporate is going to push us pretty hard to start coming back in the office. They'll likely do a phased approach and bring people back slowly. Maybe in waves and only a couple days a week to start with. But they're also saying as of right now, those who are on site are expected to continue to wear masks and social distance. Not sure how feasible it's going to be to social distance in a cube farm when they bring all of us back.

HEB lists being a teacher as an eligible criteria at the very top of the page you land on with the link I posted. Not sure why you haven't followed the link I posted yet. They may be out of appointments by now but you will eventually find one if you keep refreshing.

Don't use the zip code search. Leave it blank and locations with appointments are listed at the top. For some reason the search feature isn't including the Saturday vaccine clinic locations so just scroll through the list.

I've been able to book 3 different appointments at HEB for people I'm helping out since 8am this morning. Last one was just a few minutes ago.

Why does the location of the test matter?

I have no idea.

Just guessing, but maybe the old lady asked HR where to get a test done and the HR person only knows his/her immediate area around the office.

Also, there's a chance BDUB isn't telling me 100% of the story simply due to her forgetfulness.

Either way, we're playing the waiting game now and old lady should have kept her ass at home rather than infecting an entire group.

Office folks are WFH still and last update was prior to governor's note that we won't be going back til May/June. There was a clarifying email sent from our country chair yesterday saying that those critical employees that are back (plants/refineries mostly) that masks are still required when you are not alone

As of today, my plan is just to wait this thing out a couple more months until I can nearly walk in and get poked.

And I don't have a logical reason, but for some reason, I just don't want the J&J vaccine. Two illogical reasons: 1) the video I've seen accompanying any J&J discussion seems like a gigantic amount of liquid. That same amount with my allergy shots sucks balls. 2) I think it was shown to be 93% effective versus the 97+% for Pfizer and Moderna.

Like I said, no logic. If it came down to it though, I'd shrug my shoulders and get the J&J.

Yeah, my son was vaccinated at TX Children's (got his second dose this week) based on the obesity metric.

I went ahead and signed up for the J&J because I figured I wouldn't get an invite anytime soon, and if I got one before the 1a and 1B requirements are relaxed, I just wouldn't make the appt.

I was trying to get on waiting lists because we have a big trip to Alaska planned in June. But Alaska just lifted all their travel restrictions - you don't even have to have a negative test to enter (it's recommended but not required). So, we should be good to go there.

Evidently when Canada announced they were not opening to cruise ships, the governor decided Alaska needs to open up to air travel to have any hope of a decent tourism season.

J&J is ~70% in preventing the disease, but 100% against hospitalization and death. It's a perfect vaccine for us healthy folks that are low risk and save the Moderna/Pfizer for the high risk people

I wouldn't bother with the city / county stuff. Monitor HEB, WalMart, Walgreens and CVS websites. I've helped quite a few people get their first shot scheduled and it's generally possible to grab an appointment same day or within a few days if you spend a couple of hours bouncing between those sites (and particularly if you spend those few hours late at night, early in the morning, or when the open a new batch of appointments).

For example, if you logged into HeBs site right now you should be able to schedule an appointment for tomorrow or Saturday. There are a huge number of appointments in Houston available. Spend an hour or so refreshing if you are too late for this upload and you'll find some that open up. No reason you should've be able to get a shot by this weekend if you want one.

Go here right now if you want the J&J shot on Saturday:

HEB for the win....keep refreshing.....I can attest to this. Don't depend on the county site.

I'm torn on whether or not I should use the fact that I'm technically overweight per my BMI to get a vaccine in the next week or so. We have some travel planned for next month, and I'd feel better about it if I'm vaccinated. At the same time, I don't want to be accused of killing Nanna by taking a vaccine away from someone else with a "greater need."

Do it and don't think twice about it. You're following the rules.

And you're not taking the vaccine away from anyone. The issue with the older folks is they need help with the online scheduling because a lot of them don't have computers and smart phones. You can't take vaccine away from someone if they can't even get online to make an appointment.

I have worked from home for approx 5 yrs and that won't change when our office actually does open back up. Our CEO is a bit of a liberal that seems to be buying into the fear porn. I expect our office to remain closed atleast for a couple more months. What will be interesting to see is if we again cancel our annual users conference that is usually held in early June. I've heard that we are looking at locations but no news on dates and/or if anything will actually be held.

The Houston appointments are full now, so you'll have to commit an hour or two to hitting refresh repeatedly in order to find one that opens up, ideally early in the morning or late at night. Worst time is at the end of the workday.

If you only check sporadically, you'll never be able to find one unless you get extremely lucky.

I've told my staff to continue masking up while entering/exiting the building and in communal areas and to be mindful about their surroundings when away from the office. That said, I understand that people are going to live their lives.

Trust the process....this vaccine needs to get out. The more people that are unsure if they should get it, the less it gets out. If you can get the shot and you want to get the shot, get the damn shot. Despite what some say, the process for getting the vaccinations out has been working rather well for as quickly as it was rolled out.
