Funny bars have been shuttered along with indoor dining here in LA since June along with arguably some of the most stringent mask laws in the country yet we're leading the nation. Almost like all these bull **** regulations don't do a damn thing.

yep. that's funny. the bars around here in houston are full steam ahead. heck, they're more packed now than they were before covid because they have added more area to "space out" and put tables in the parking lots.

The latest SETRAC data won't be available until tomorrow, but below is a link to the most recent Montgomery County hospital data that I can find. Sorry I don't know how to post an image snapshot. If you look at the graphs, general beds being used for Covid-19 patients is about 60-70% of what it was in July (the peak). ICU beds being used for Covid-19 patients is also at about 60-70% of what it was in July.

ICU beds are at about 90% capacity. General beds are at about 80% capacity.

Graphs clearly show Covid hospitalization numbers are up, but are not the highest they've been.

Hospital summary:

The number of general and ICU beds in use at Montgomery County hospitals held relatively steady over the past week, according to data from the Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council. From Dec. 15-21, between 872 and 1,015 general beds were in use daily throughout the county including between 121 and 145 for confirmed and suspected COVID-19 patients. Across county ICUs, between 151 and 165 beds were in use daily Dec. 15-21 including between 30 and 37 for COVID-19 patients.

If I understand the news reports the last few weeks correctly, the hospitalizations locally aren't expected to be as numerically significant as the summer's, but where before the surge could be managed with transient medical personnel now there are so many other areas in the state and nationwide peaking that flexibility is not available.

On the COVID board a doc or two have mentioned their hospitals are tapering off elective procedures in the expectation of a post-Christmas surge. FWIW

I've been watching that since the beginning. It's really awesome data. I like being able to do custom date ranges.

I've been to that website before, but somehow I missed those trackers. I'm a data junkie - I can waste hours on those websites looking at all that data 50 different ways.

Someone embellished how bad this thing is right now? No way! Tell me something I dont know.
