"Judge Wolff's order is not inconsistent with the Governor's executive order," said John Wittman, a spokesman for Abbott. "Our office urges officials and the public to adopt and follow the health protocols for businesses established by doctors" that are available online.

In an interview Wednesday with KWTX, Abbott said that local officials just needed to read the plan issued by the state to see the orders they could issue in compliance with state directives.

Wolff "finally read what we had written and what they now realize they are capable of doing is that we want to make sure individual liberty is not infringed upon by government, and hence government cannot require individuals to wear masks," Abbott said.

"Local governments can require stores and business to require masks. That's what was authorized in my plan," Abbott added. "Businesses they've always had the opportunity and the ability, just like they can require people to wear shoes and shirts, these businesses can require people to wear face masks if they come into their businesses. Now local officials are just now realizing that that was authorized."
...
"I'm pleased that the Governor has changed his mind. I'm asking our county lawyers and business leaders to look at this and plan to make a proposal for the Commissioner's Court to look at very soon," Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said in a statement, who said he's already looking into whether he'll follow suit.

A spokesperson for Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo said they are checking with the county attorney's office on Wolff's order, adding that "we're not any safer today than we were in March. There is no vaccine. No cure. We remain very concerned about the trajectory of hospital admissions."

No symptoms or issues at this point. I had a follow up chest x-ray a couple weeks ago and it was clear, and my oxygen levels have been good.

Yes, but pretty obvious you simply can't say there was only one death in the last week. The deaths from last week will probably be counted weeks and months from now. So data is meaningless

Understood. But basically when the news is saying "there were six new deaths yesterday", what they are really saying is that there were 3 deaths from early May, one death from late May, one death from two weeks ago, and one death from 2 days ago reported yesterday. Using those "daily" numbers to try to discern any kind of actual change in current trends is 100% useless.

Haha...no. My point was they were mainly people with underlying conditions. None were healthy 20 or 30 somethings. Not saying there haven't been those, but they've been rare.

Not much comfort since I just turned 50 and have at least one of the conditions indicated.

Friendly fire bud, you and I are on the same side in this argument. I am not complaining about any of this at all, just pointing out that his comment means different things to different people. I wear a mask and don't hang out in bars or go to protests, but otherwise I am living my life. Even for my age demographic, the risk is still pretty small. I don't expect anybody to go out of their way to protect me. I am more upset that the media keeps hyping the "spike in new cases" without similarly talking about the "spike in testing" that is going with it. They keep talking about the "spike in hospitalizations" without talking about the fact that we have plenty of hospital and ICU bed capacity to handle the increase. The data on this whole outbreak has always been really sketchy, and nobody is doing a good job in the media of pointing out the limitations of the numbers they are presenting to the public on a daily basis. Instead, they are typically drawing big sweeping conclusions from small changes in the data, that are not generally supported well by the dataset they are using.

I didn't have any ill intent with my comment. Take care of yourself do what you feel is best for you.

I agree about the selective info released by the media. It's doing a dishonor to the people who rely on that information to not have all of the facts. I think we all know why they're doing that, which should piss us all off. Another thing that should also piss us off, that many seem to ignore, is how the experts (and local leadership) were shouting from the rooftops how dangerous this was, but then supported the protests. Once the media got finished with the protests, it's back to more fear porn. I guess they posted "virus free" signs at the entrances to the cities or something, so they were good.

No - they closed it. So now the contractor (no doubt a good buddy of Sly Turner) can double dip the county for another $17mil if they need to build it again.

Haven't they already built the temp hospital twice? Once as a tent and again inside the convention center?

So now they'll need to pay a third time...

I saw the county had plans to build a 150 bed temporary hospital in NRG Arena back back in late May rather than another tent facility.

Grand Oaks HS (Conroe ISD) football player has tested positive. The kids were in groups of 15 apparently. No word on where he was exposed.

Cy Ridge Volleyball players have tested positive. Friend did not say how many.

Texas had 13 football players test positive and now another 10 in self quarantine.

I posted earlier about two elementary age students testing positive as well. We were made aware because they could no longer attend summer school online. They are quite ill and the entire family is sick. (Spring ISD - kids live in Houston)

This is from a few days ago but it seems like restaurants closing because of employees coming in contact with COVID is going to be a common occurrence.
