IDK - if you're a company that's affiliated with O&G in any way, you're dealing with a financial crisis. The last thing any one of them needs is an outbreak at one of their facilities - especially if it's among cube- and office-dwellers who can work from home.

Some of you just can't help portraying yourselves as badasses. Are y'all that insecure that you have to always prove how right you are by yelling the loudest or demeaning those that have different opinions?

If these companies can maintain business with a percentage of people working from home, then there's no need to rush things.

You go do your thing and let other people worry about their's.

IDK where you are, but we had take out sushi from our favorite place last week, and it was freaking delicious.

MASA Sushi in Webster/Clear Lake (they also have locations in Friendswood and Dickinson, but I've never eaten at them).

IDK...I was there last Thursday night, so it was still just take out. Looked at their website, and it doesn't say.

I think I posted on the thread about going back to the office, but our company announced Monday that starting this coming Monday they will be bringing 45 people back to the office every two weeks and will adjust that as needed or as circumstances allow. Priority is being determined by people who can't work from home or are having trouble for whatever the reason may be. We're pretty sure our department is pretty low on that list as we all are set up pretty well at home and wouldn't likely be at the top of any immediate return list regardless. Personally, I'm fine working from home. I'm not scared to go in or anything, but I don't miss the commute or the associated gas bill and my setup at home is at least as good as my office. They're also requiring masks right now and I'd rather not do that if I don't have to.

We did Uchi to go and it was very good. Not as good as in person, but still a great night. What about that Hando place on 11th?

Hando is great. Some of the best sushi I've had. Haven't seen them open since before COVID, though.

Think you will see a lot of companies not return until the fall due to the limited amount of day care option.

We learned this morning that we're going to be WFH until at least July. We're in software, and outside of sales I'm not sure there is a meaningful dropoff in total productivity.

I'm not a badass. I'm just not a person who has bought into this over-hyped politically driven hoax. Companies slowly opening are doing so because they're afraid of any public backlash, not because they feel their employees are better off working from home. Sorry you're not able to see that.

My company was back in the office starting this week. They're taking people temperatures as you walk in. I can't believe people are saying September lol. We're a fortune 500 too

I realize there's little to no chance your opinion gets changed from this post, but the reality that essentially every country in the world - communist, socialist, fascist, republic or otherwise - has reacted to this with a collective "oh ****" does somewhat argue against this being a domestic political hoax. Overhyped? Time will tell, but no question there's hyperbole and bull**** out of both sides of the entertainment news industry.

Yep and they probably have to see what school districts do too. If they're full in session then I'd expect people to be back in large numbers.

I think some companies (mine included) are playing it slow because they're realizing that WFH could be a viable option moving forward regardless of the pandemic conditions.

They're probably waiting to see how productivity does once other aspects of the economy get back and if it gets back and stays to pre-COVID levels then I think we'll see telecommuting become way more popular.

What countries? The ones who talk about us behind our back but are "Hi America!! We love you, America!!" at the first sign of trouble? Those? The ones who follow and don't lead? The truth is if a dem was in office, we wouldn't be where we are because the media wouldn't have fear hyped it to the extent they did. We overreacted due to false models and have destroyed the economy (their main goal) and countless lives because of it. We closed the country out of fear and are slowly opening it out of fear. We let the "experts" who have consistently been less accurate than the weatherman dictate every step of this, and most have willingly gone along with it. A lot of people gave it a chance, but they woke up when they realized the goal posts are constantly moving and watching videos of police raiding a bar who is just trying to support itself (Odessa), judges jail and fine a business owner who wants to support her employees and their families, and unemployment shoot through the roof with no end in sight. So yeah, my mind won't be changed. In this country, it is 100% about November.

I have no idea what mine is going to do, O&G major and I sit on the trade floor with 400ish people in one big open space sitting basically shoulder to shoulder about 3 feet apart. WFH extended till 5/31 but no word on what they are doing after that. My guess is it gets extended as they work out some plan, my guess would be A B shifts or more staggering how many people are on the floor at once with deep cleanings on the weekend between turnovers? Just a guess though

It's fine when it's actual discussion and not an argument. Or until you come along ranting and raving and throwing a fit about how right you are and how wrong everyone else is. We get it. You know everything and you're the expert.

There's no need to start an argument and pick a fight with everyone who disagrees with you. Save that for Forum 16.

Hey buddy, go up to the top of this page and see who is ranting and raving and starting an argument. Here's a hint, it wasn't me. Never claimed to be a badass and only stated my opinion that publicly traded companies are opening in the fall or later to please the board and not have any negative press. Nobody wants the bad PR to be the first to open then have an employee test positive, regardless of how they got it. The employee could test positive on day freaking 1, and the company will be dragged through the mud and watch its stock take a hit.

We're likely not returning on any significant basis until next year, but mainly because it's a trial of permanent WFH.

Just another data point, but our company went back to work downtown this past Monday. Seems like around 90% of people are here every day.

Masks required when in hallways, public areas, or when within 6 feet of another human. Temperature readings when we come in, limited people on elevators, etc. My work area is mostly cubicles, so basically anytime you get up from your desk, you put on the mask. Other than that, people work from their cubicles.

Everything has gone fine so far, but it'll be curious to see what happens if one person gets it on the floor.

I also know of one other major downtown company thinking about coming back in around two weeks. Probably a staggered approach compared to ours.

When you say 90% are you referring to your company or total people normally in downtown?
CoachRTM

My company specific.

Downtown is still a ghost town for the most part. I would estimate 20% of the businesses in the tunnel (restaurants, etc.) are open, and even the ones that are open are running a skeleton crew.

Mine hasn't talked about a date yet, but they have talked about the possibility of changing the WFH policy with altering our current policy or making some positions permanent WFH. I can tell you one thing, after this, I do not want permanent WFH even though my position can be done remotely. I would prefer a rotating schedule where I'm in the office a week and WFH for a week, which would be the best of both worlds.
