Need some recommendations on good places to eat in Galveston this coming weekend. I'll be down there for the THSCA coaches school in Houston, but staying at a beach house on Galveston.

We enjoy Fisherman's Wharf on the ship canal. Catch it at the right time its cool to sit out on the patio, drink, and watch the cruise ships come in and out.

Second vote for Black Pearl.

Make a trip to the West End Marina/Sand Bar and watch the recreational boats come in and out while you eat.

Shrimp n Stuff. Basically all fried though.

The snapper at the Poop Deck is to die for.

Rudy and Paco's is legit.
One of them opened up Vargas which is also good.
Saltwater Grill is solid too.

Shark Shack on strand is solid (right by La Kings). Coastal Grill if you want some Greek flair.

The Spot does a pretty good burger and shake.

Breakfast - Gumbo Dinner.

I would hit up Nick's over Gaido's. All the good stuff on the menu, can sit outside, and half the price. The key is the michael preparation on whatever fish on the menu.

Now if you want pizza and/or italian. Mama Theresa's.

Basically if you wind up at 21st and post office you are doing alright.

Forgot to add Miller's also has a good breakfast. Apparently a top chicken fried steak too according to Texas Monthly.

You are really going to drive from the beach house in Galveston to the GRB each day for the conference? Sounds brutal.

It is usually half of that. II make that drive a lot from downtown to the west side of the island. It really depends on time of day. the HOV out of downtown really helps.

They are also known for their bearded clam....all served with a healthy dose of racism. PSA to any "people of color" - don't drive one of those peddle carriages by the Poop Deck in the late afternoon or evening.

I don't profess to know how long that commute is to downtown but I do know that it takes me exactly 2 hours to get from the far West End of the island to SpringWoods taking 45-BW8-HTR. I can leave at 7 am Monday morning and be at the office at 9 am.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We usually only end up at the convention center twice. Once to pick up our stuff then for the regional meeting. The rest of the time is spent golfing, drinking, sitting on the beach.

Another vote for Black Pearl. That is our go-to lunch spot when we take a day trip. The shrimp Po Boy is amazing.

I will also add if you wana get off the island one night and try local food, hit up Top Water Grill in Baycliff off 146 and 646. Right on the water, great bar area atmosphere, and food.

if yall are on the West End of the island, give this place a go. The Sandbar Grill has good fried seafood, good place to watch sports and the Karaoke on weekends is a lot of fun.
