Doing a rental in galveston next weekend for 3 days. 3 and 6 yr old kiddos. Doing train museum for my son. Pier seems limited on rides they would care about. How long to go through and how enjoyable would space center be? Kemah boatd walk vs pier in galveston? Will probably just do beach 1/2 day. Any info or old threads on the topic appreciated.

Space Center is good.
Moody Gardens Aquarium
The Strand has old fashioned ice cream parlor near the train museum
Drive to End of East Beach to see ships in channel and WW 2 markers where guns deployed to protect channel
Bolivar ferry ride and take bread to feed seagulls
Stingrays diner on bolivar island for bbq crabs and sunset
Shrimp N Stuff for good cheap seafood. Get it to go and eat in the nice gardens at Moody Gardens
Check Galveston tourism center's calendar for any events while you're there.
Elissa ship is docked near the Strand.
Dog race park is near the island
Rent a sailboat tour.

Good luck.

As a 6 year old, I had far more fun at the beaches, or running around Sea Wolf park and the bunkers than at any of the museums or touristy things.

Rainforest Cafe on the Island is always a hit with the kids

The Galveston Children's Museum is actually a pretty good place to kill half a day. It is in the basement of the Moody Mansion which is a historic home that you can tour.

Kemah is probably better for little kids than the Pleasure Pier. There is a train and some small rides for little ones.

Schlitterbahn also has a few kid play areas

Space center will not hold there attention very long and it has been very, very crowded due to 50th anniversary of Apollo 11. Kemah is pricey and hot. If you are going to do that just go to the Pleasure Pier. It is the same thing without the drive.

Next Saturday (the 20th) is the 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11 Celebration at the Space Center. I'm sure it will be great, but as a poster said above, it will be more crowded. Admission tickets are also more expensive because of the extra events (including a concert that night).

Thanks for all the replies. I think we will do beach, strand walk and eat, train museum, and then plan to hit the houston aquarium on our last day before head home. Thanks for the anniversary info at space center. We will save that and pier for another year. Do they still have the little 2 seater pedal bike/carts? Its been at least 15 years since I've been there but I recall riding one.

I know it may be too late but on Saturdays they actually run the train at the train museum. What's great is that it crosses entryways to cruise parking lots. Last time we rode it, a shuttle bus driver tried to gun it past the train and lost. Crazy thing is the back of the bus was smashed to hell but you couldn't even feel the impact from the train.

Doesn't do anything to them. Neither does rice.

I always thought the rice thing was funny. For you to believe that exploded birds stomachs, then you must believe that there are tons of dead birds around rice patties and farms.
