At Mel's a few years ago, I saw someone from a table that was recently sat wave over a waitress burdened by a tray of cleared dishes. They pointed to something on the table and said, "I think that is a booger." She looked at it, leaned in a bit for a closer look, reached down with a finger and swiped it up for an even closer inspection, then merely wiped it on her apron and headed back to the kitchen.

The table of individuals then proceeded to get up and head for the exit.

I pondered the scene briefly, the meaning of the moment and its application to life, and then dug back into my perfectly cooked chicken fried steak.

T-Bone Tom's also has a good CFS. What it may lack in quality, it makes up for in quantity.

In Houston proper I give the nod to Lankford's Grocery. They only serve CFS on Thursdays (and maybe Fridays).

We have been going to Hickory Hollow on Fallbrook since around 1978 and it is still there.

Any place that only has a location on Fallbrook is for all intents and purposes closed to me.

I'd say the only acceptable time to order chicken fried steak at a steakhouse would be for lunch. I'm not keen on dropping big coin on a steak for lunch when I can't have alcohol with it next to my wife afterwich I can go home for adult activities, but a quality CFS for under $20 with great service IS a legit lunch option.

Sorry somebody telling the truth about a fast food joint hit so close to home. And GOD FORBID a statement is made about going to a high end steakhouse and ordering a CFS.

That's definitely one where "my back yard" is probably right. Most places under season deviled eggs if they serve them.

Do it at home, use your own recipe as long as it includes Weber's horseradish mustard and smoked paprika.

Mmmmmmm, Live Oak Grill. I used to work across the railroad tracks from that place, and went there regularly.

And as it happens, they are building a Mia's Table right up the road from me here in Cinco Ranch.
