The wife and I are looking at moving out to Towne Lake.

Any input on the schools?

I would assume they are very good.

We're Wells-Smith-Bridgeland. And they're excellent.

Cy Ranch has always been good. Sure it still is after the recent rezoning.

Cy Fair school district is very proud of themselves. Just ask them.

Our experience with 3 children has been good/very good at the elementary level, bad at middle and HS level (which includes Bridgeland HS and Cy Ranch either of which you would be zoned to).

CFISD is enormous, bureaucratic, resistant to change (see my comment about pride above), and profligate with taxpayer money. Needs to be split into 3 districts, probably. No one can ever explain to me in economic terms how there are economies of scale at this level. If there are, why not just have one giant school district for the state and manage it from Austin? Or better yet, a federal district managed from DC?

The more localized the district, the more responsive, innovative, and well-matched to the needs of the student imo. Cy Fair is none of those things but they sure are able to perform on certain standardized tests that define "excellence" in our system.

Last point, look up the CFISD superintendent on Twitter. You'll find him trash-talking a charter school principal who was trying to boost his own strategy for providing alternatives. I **** you not.

I think it's fair to say public HS in Texas is as you describe the CFISD schools - bad. Standardized test scores and butts in seats is all they care about.

I don't twitter but I can believe the Super doing this. Talking to administrators in Klein ISD I wouldn't be surprised to find the same thing.

From our experience, I agree with Jack's comments especially these:

Where in TL. We are wanting to move out there too.

We're looking in some of the newer sections of TL. But have also looked in Parkland Village of Bridgeland as well. The newer builds are what we seem to like.

Taxes are through the roof in both Bridgeland and TL,but the amenities seem better in TL.

We're both not from the Cypress area so I'm just looking at reports on the school websites. All seem great in Bridgeland. TL seems to have a great elementary and high, but for some reason the middle school doesn't seem to match up.

If we make the move - we'd like to think our kids can go thru the whole system (elementary thru high).

They will be perfectly fine going up thru cy-ranch.

I'm currently building in Parkland. We'll be right across the street from the schools. My wife teaches at one of them. Supposedly there will be a middle school built in between the elementary and high school so that'll be nice for my two young kids.

It's the Anthony Middle that's got me skeptical for TL.

Because the attendance zone goes south of west so you're getting more apartments and cheap houses. TL is the last nice neighborhood before you get a bit more dicey south on Barker before 10

TL just misses out on Smith. I would bet if/when Bridgeland gets their middle school built that TL would feed Smith with CCL. Not sure how far away that is though.

In spite of some good passionate educators Cyfair isn't about what is best for your child, its about checking bureaucratic boxes and test scores.

Its too big and has lost sight of what they should focus on. This is true for any ISD that massive.

Building?

Bridgeland will get their middle school in 24/25. So Smith will be the main school until then. We picked bridgeland over tl bc of the more nature feel. High density power lines running though the middle was a big turnoff. The nature trials and parks in bridgeland are far superior to tl but tl has the commercial aspect. Running to the park or dog park or treehouse far outweigh what's for dinner tonight.

TL has a lake with boats. Bridgeland does not. So for me the two don't even compare.

Not sure on building or not. Seems that you can get quite the deal on a spec home that sits on the market a while.

Good news to hear about possible rezoning once the new middle is open in Bridgeland. Our oldest won't start elementary until 2021 so I'm already probably planning way too far out.

Just trying to be sure. The houses don't move as quickly or there as opposed to the heights. We're making the move mainly for schools, and secondly for a traditional home/backyard set up.

TL has a smallish fake blue lake for boats if trolling at 15 mph is your thing.

The trails and more open aspect of Bridgeland was our draw. I prefer natural water to the dyed variety of Townlake. Plus I can drive the seven minutes to partake in the commercial areas around TL and then head back home to the relative calm.

Taxes suck in both. I think Smith has the advantage in junior highs. Both elementaries and high schools are a firm push IMO.

Pontoon boats and no wake zones are fun.

there is a wakesetter docked right now and I've seen an X9 out there too.

So not only not just pontoon boats, but also not just DD. They allow v-drive and ballast.

One of the reasons we like TL. You can actually boat on the suburban lakes. It's not a "real" lake. But still pretty awesome.

I have heard slips have about a 2 year waiting list. Bit not bad to get on the list now with young kids.

I graduated from nearby Langham Creek (a school 3 times as ghetto as Ranch or Woods or Bridgeland) less than 10 years ago and had no problem with it.

I think you will be just fine. I don't understand any hate for CFISD schools. Ya schools like Lakes and Springs aren't the best schools, but you could literally walk into automatic acceptance to A&M
Ragoo

The problem with their slips are they are $240+ per month. If/when we can make the move it will be to a house with a tandem garage so I can keep the boat and launch when I want to use it.

So the high schools are good. And the elementary schools are good.

Guess we could send to private for middle if we had to...

I went to Aragon Middle School and it might've been the best of my 3 schools to be honest.

Look, you asked, we gave our opinion. If you only want to hear good things about Cy Fair, just go to cfisd.net. They'll have everything you're looking for.

I appreciate the input and opinions. Didn't mean for that last quote to come across wrong.

I'm from NE TX and have no real idea about the school systems down here.

In spite of some good passionate educators Cyfair Katy isn't about what is best for your child, its about checking bureaucratic boxes and test scores.

I attended Katy ISD schools for all 13 years and its the same thing there. We spent entire spring semesters doing TAAS/TAKS/STARR test prep. I married into a family of Katy ISD educators and they all tell me its all the same between Cy-Fair and Katy. The southside Katy ISD schools just have way more PTA money and involvement which can make a difference as far as resources. But all the district really cares about is hitting those test scores so they can extract every possible dollar from the state.

money and resources is why TL and Bridgeland are fine in CFISD. Both HS and feeder schools have a "wealthy" pool.

Falls
Ridge
Langham
Creek
Woods

Would be non-starters.

Thanks for confirming I'm poor. I'm currently zoned to Langham. All those years of southside Katy ISD education and Langham is the best I can do

IIRC we live pretty close
