Any cliff's notes on what an IOLTA account is?

Also, what kind of penalties might there be for someone charged with Misapplication of Fiduciary Property, Felony Theft, and Money Laundering? Amounts are between $100k and $200k.

IOLTA account is where money that is unearned/client propert is kept. The interest it bears goes to the state bar for legal services for the poor, etc.

Comingling unearned client money with firm operating account is reason #1 by far that attorneys get disbarred.

So you know an attorney that stole between $100-200k from their clients? More details please.

Interest On Lawyers Trust Account. It's where a lawyer is supposed to hold a client's funds in trust. Serious bidness to use improperly and/or misappropriate clients' funds. The google can probably tell you much more.

Not the first time he's been accused of mishandling funds, not paying debts, etc. I know another lawyer that went away to prison for a number of years (sentenced to 35...got out in 10 or so) for stealing clients' money. It's not the kind of thing you get a slap on the wrist for, rightfully so.

I met him a couple of times when he was Harris Cty Republican Chairman. No particularly memorable issues. I just never thought he was very bright.

The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.
