Captain Ernesto "Ernie" Blanco '98, from San Antonio, was a member of the Corps of Cadets, Squadron 16, and the Ross Volunteers. After graduating from A&M with a degree in Animal Science, Capt. Blanco commissioned in the Army, where he was a graduate of the Army's Jumpmaster, Ranger, and Airborne courses.
He served with the 82nd Airborne Division, and during his service in Afghanistan, he earned a Bronze Star for his actions in a combat zone. On December 28th, 2003, Capt. Blanco was killed in action in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2016, an Aggie Ring was donated to a student veteran in his name, and to further his memory, a memorial scholarship was started through the Texas A&M Foundation.
This Thanksgiving season, we want to show our thanks for Capt. Ernie Blanco '98. Here are some ways you can help:
1. Make a donation to his memorial scholarship by sending a check made payable to the Texas A&M Foundation. On the memo line, indicate--Capt. Ernesto Blanco '98 Memorial Scholarship, 0436146.
Mail to:
Texas A&M Foundation
401 George Bush Drive
College Station, TX 77840-2811
Or:
https://www.txamfoundation.com/give.aspx and include the scholarship number, 0436146 when making the donation.
2. Don't have the ability to give at this time? Post "Here" or share a memory of Ernie, and an anonymous donor will give $1 to his memorial scholarship fund, up to $5,000.
3. For the next month, all Red Pear Realty listing services are free for those who make a direct donation to Capt. Blanco's memorial scholarship in the corresponding amount of that service, less a 16% discount. This needs to be a donation made after this post to the Capt. Blanco scholarship fund. Please reach out to us to discuss if interested before starting the process.
In John 15:13, Jesus says, "Greater love has no man than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends."
