I ate at Superica last night and thought it was pretty good and decently priced. The have the old Felix sign in the bar which is cool and nostalgic for you olds. Anyone else been? I am really interested in trying La Lucha now.

It's a somewhat limited menu at La Lucha, but I thought it was pretty good. The oyster chowder fries are Fantastic.

I have been impressed with both spots. Have been to Superica several times and have tried several different things and all really good. Been to La Lucha once and was very good, too. They have a great burger.

The queso is definitely not the same as Felix's (but still good)....but I'd say the cheese enchiladas are similar.

Not authentic
Not as good as I make in my backyard
Fajitas are too expensive
Not enough local seasonal beer offerings
Had to valet park

But otherwise, enjoyed both places.

"Oh look at me, I make "State of Grace" money!"

I am sure you can afford an F-150 too. This is a thread about cheap down home Tex-mex, we don't care how much money you make bro.

Don't mean to derail too much, but you ever been to Larry's Original in Richmond? They have a very similar sign and supposedly the food is pretty close to Felix because the owner's dad and Felix were close.

Don't get the nostalgia for Felix. I thought that place was awful.

Maybe I missed out on their hayday.

Yeah, Larry's is pretty similar

Think I only ate at Felix's once or twice way back in hs, so I don't have any strong memories or opinions about the food. I'll probably try Larry's at some point; their sign just caught my attention when I was passing by one day.

Maybe the Felix thing is like Molina's; a lot of us just like traditional TexMex enchiladas and standards that we had growing up, but wouldn't necessarily bring an out of town guest there to awe them.

You're probably right. I grew up in the suburbs so my nostalgia is for Marco's.

...and how pitiful is that? Ugh.
Westheimer Felix had great salsa, cool venue, quality staff and is missed to this day. Used Marco's for a quick buzz out in the sticks. Nasty. Horrible food; ripped off the Los Tios little league model....with all that entails. And, technically, if it's (ugh) Marco's it's EXURBS, not suburbs. POS all the way around. Felix mattered. Exurb-folk couldn't possibly understand. Like you.

Los Tios Meyerland is probably the one I'd been to the most growing up. I think there was also a Marcos in Meyer Park for a while that we went to a couple times.
