Anyone been to this before and how early would I need to show up to grab a spot along the route for the wife and kid? Parade starts at 9.

It's not going to be like the Astros parade. You shouldn't have trouble finding a spot somewhere along the route. (Though it has been a really long time since I've gone)

Don't go and stay home to watch the Macy's Parade until one of the broadway performances starts pushing some liberal agenda. Once that happens, turn it off and start cooking for your loved ones.

For future reference since I could not find any related posts...

I got here at 7:00 and the entire route was already lined with people. Luckily I was able to grab one spot for two chairs in the front. At 7:30 there are no front row spots left.
