So a friend of mine has a job offer to teach at a high school in La Porte and at Baytown...

I work in La Porte in another industry entirely. But of the two, which is the better choice?

Whichever one pays more or is closest.

It's just work so as long as he gets to go home elsewhere it's no big deal.

If it is GCM or Sterling in Baytown I would go with those over LaPorte.

I'd take GCM over La Porte these days...and teach and have taught in the area of both of these schools. GCM seems to be on the way up, and they pay more than LP.

Why are those the only options? In this area, your friend should try and get into Deer Park or Barbers Hill.

EDIT - I just re read the OP. That said, take the job at GCM and then try to get into DP or BH in a couple of years.

Are they intentionally trying to stay on the **** side of town? I grew up in Baytown & there's no way I'd teach there.

And while LP is over the bridge, it's crap too.

If a decision has to be made, teach in Baytown, live in Barbers Hill.
