I think JP's now hear claims in the $10,000 range, so you could get some juicy disputes over who really owns that old truck.

And I may just be imagining this, but I think they have a six man jury instead of twelve.

Yeah, it's 6-man ball at the JP level; at least it is in Brazos.

My last Jury Duty was a JP at one of the courts outside of downtown.

So basically the jurors show up and fill the courtroom. The judge comes out and talks to us. Apparently all the cases on the docket for the day have until 9ish to settle or plea bargain or whatever and not need a jury trial. So has has us wait a short time while he is waiting to hear if he going to need a jury.

While he waits he marries a couple. Then he thanks us for our service and lets us go home.

Best Jury Service ever. No trying to park downtown. No getting lost in the tunnels under the courts. No waiting for hours in the jury room and was done by 10am.

Highly recommended. And still took a whole day off from work.

It's Judge Judy with a jury. Small claims court. >$10,000.
Could be a traffic (speeding etc) case as well
