I think I have some from a couple of years ago of the smaller trailer. I think it will hold about 10-12 sacks. Both the bigger trailers will hold 16-18 if you stuff it full.

Somehow my dad got $1/lb and the guy even drove from Lafayette to Baytown to deliver, just hours after he farmed them. Pretty good deal. They weren't huge, but were good. I think the guy had like 50 sacks he was delivering, my dad only was getting 4.

Sounds like he probably got crawfish that have been sacked for too long

They were sacked for about 5 hours; I have no idea if that's long or not.

You'd be surprised how often crawfish that have been sacked for a few days and in a cooler are unsacked and mixed with fresh crawfish. Were there any with straight tails once cooked?

No straight tails that I saw. They were good crawfish no doubt, just not as big as I was hoping.

For the price, no one was complaining. 10-12 native Louisianans can't be wrong.

Interesting

Heard anything about this?

Quote:

A virus that affects crustaceans is threatening the crawfish industry in Louisiana.
It's called the White Spot Syndrome Virus, or WSSV.

Despite its name, researchers say it doesn't change the way a crawfish looks. The virus wipes out large and medium size crawfish. It can also make them sluggish and weak.

Houston-area crawfish distributor Vincent Florio, owner of Critter Runners, has been keeping a close eye on the situation.

It's the same way we dump from soaker into the totes. Roll the soaker up next to the boil pot and up with the winch

There was an article about Boyd's in the Galveston paper the other day. Boyd's is building a huge facility for processing crawfish, shrimp, etc. They currently provide crawfish to 80+ HEBs in the Houston area.
