Dr Alfred Mansour at the UT Health Science Center in the Med Center is my BIL. He's one of the best orthos in the country. Works(ed) for the Rockets, Astros, Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies, and Tennessee Titans on top of his duties at the hospital.

Adickes did my hip scope and labrum repair. It was a revision. He knows his stuff but never felt like he spent enough time with me. Wait a hour to be seen and then spend 3 minutes with him.

Seeing mansour now and really like his approach and how much time he spends listening to what I have to say

Always best to choose a surgeon based on his skill with the scalpel. Of course this runs contrary to his patient satisfaction scores which are about the worst way to quantify quality of care imaginable. But the more time you spend with the patient the higher their perceived quality of care, regardless of surgical or clinical acumen.

My experience would tend to agree with ttuhscaggie.
The best surgeons I know are absolute jerks. They are arrogant. Much like head football coaches, CEO's and fighter pilots. The great ones have a high opinion of themselves.
If you are looking for someone to spend time with you, who is a good listener and makes you feel like you are his/her only patient maybe the best surgeon is not for you.
